Occasionally, Etiquette Hell sponsors a charitable activity to benefit someone or some organization that Ehellions may know. In previous years it was fund-raising for the local fire department that averted a major fire at my home, another year we made scarves for rehab patients in memory of a deceased forum member, raised money to send gifts to soldiers in Iraq and raised money for two forum members very adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina.
This holiday season we are organizing the acquisition and then distribution of hats and mittens (or scarves) to the children at Rancho 3M in Guadalupe, Mexico. Rancho 3M is located about an hour from Juarez where some of the worst drug cartel violence has occurred in recent years. Whereas most of the children are not orphans in the true sense of the word, meaning they have at least one living parent who cannot care for them, in just this year there have been new children to the orphanage who are truly orphans who have lost both parents to murder. Ages range from 6 months old to 17 years old.
My entire family has been involved with Rancho 3M for years doing everything from painting, tiling floors, setting up the computer lab, teaching sewing classes, welding, building renovation, and repairing anything that needs fixing. Family friends now live there to help set up and staff the “Baby House” so the Ranch can accept more infants.
So, I have arranged for us to provide all the winter hats and mittens/scarves for all the children this winter. And yes, it does get quite cold in Guadalupe! Ehell forum members have already participated by either making hats/scarves or donating money that I use to buy, wrap and ship but we are just short of our goal. There are 14 pairs of hats and mittens/gloves/scarves that donations are still needed.
Just $6.00-10.00 buys a hat and either a pair of mittens, gloves or scarf for a child. If you are interested in donating, you can do so via PayPal.com using email@example.com email address to send money to. We just need enough to cover those last 14 pairs of hats/mittens/gloves or scarves and any excess funds will be directed for the January group birthday party. Deadline for donations will be December 20th.
