Sometimes what appears attractive doesn’t have substance and what appears out of the norm hides a treasure.

Haven’t people learned from Susan Boyle to look beyond appearances? What a wonderful performance (Charlotte didn’t deserve Simon’s comments, her performance was as good as Jonathan’s, albeit in a different way.

Thanks for posting this.

WOW! What an amazing voice!

ErinAnn March 30, 2012 at 8:49 am

Charlotte was very graceful during the criticism. I hope she stays as good a friend when Jonathan’s career begins without her.

Mrs Goldfish March 30, 2012 at 8:54 am

Amazing, but I really hope he sticks with his friend now that the roles seem to be reversed. (According to Simon)
Going by first impressions Charlotte appears to be as kind as she is beautiful and I don’t think Jonathan would have dared auditioning without her. Also, I think her voice sounds amazing, they just need to learn to balance her and his voice a bit better.

So I’m on team duo 😀

Beck March 30, 2012 at 10:34 am

Jonathan has a wonderful voice but could work on a more professional look, especially for an audition (similar to a job interview). How you present yourself is important. He just needs a haircut and a shirt and jacket. That look could work for a rock singer, but not for a classical artist.

Beck, There are other Youtube videos of him prior to BGT and he does wear a suit and waistcoat.

Jelly Rose March 30, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I thought these two were fantastic together, though Charlotte wasn’t as bad as Simon seemed to go on about but Jonathan was a true friend to stay with her when a lesser man would have dropped her like a hot potato at a chance at solo career.

Absolutely wonderful and proof that God gives gifts to everyone. Even more touching and beautiful than Susan Boyle, and that’s saying something! Tears pouring down!

Floweramon March 30, 2012 at 12:26 pm

Wow, that video just lifted my heart. Between the singing, audience reactions (they even managed to get to Simon ^_^), and the friendship the duo had, it was just wonderful. And if Charlotte manages to train her voice more during the competition so that she can be on an even level with Jonathan, I think they’d be an even more wonderful duo.

Stuff like this is the only reason I put up with these types of shows.

David March 30, 2012 at 1:09 pm

All they need is a little voice-balancing. I’m on team duo as well!

Natalie March 30, 2012 at 1:40 pm

Simon Cowell’s attitude is going to get him into trouble one day. You think he would have learned his lesson with Susan Boyle, like lkb said!

Powers March 30, 2012 at 2:36 pm

She may have potential, but her voice does not sound as mature as his. That may be sad, but Simon was hardly out of line for pointing it out.

Laura March 30, 2012 at 2:44 pm

If that boy had been born a century ago or more he probably would have been a star of the opera scene. What a voice. He may be a big guy but he has a sweet face and a wonderful smile.

WildIrishRose March 30, 2012 at 3:45 pm

I’m with Mrs Goldfish. Amazing duo!!! And his voice just took OFF! She seemed to be holding back just a little, maybe to showcase him more. She was harder to hear. She needs to let go and belt it out just as he did !

A.L. March 30, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Music-wise, I agree with Simon that I’d rather hear Jonathan alone. I think he’s the better singer, plus IMO even good pop-style singing usually ends up sounding weak and lightweight when it’s directly contrasted with good opera-style singing. However (and it’s a *big* however), I’m pretty sure we (and Simon) would never have gotten to hear him *at all* if it wasn’t for Charlotte getting up there with him. And it says a lot about her, her kindness, and her faith in her friend that she convinced him to get up there in front of all of those people, including some rather harsh judges.

Kudos to Charlotte for getting them up there on stage and for taking that criticism like a champ, and kudos to Jonathan for putting himself out there, doing some absolutely awesome singing, and sticking by his friend like she’s stuck by him!

Not having a TV I didnt know what all the fuss was about for Johnathan and Charlotte but watching that was sending shivers up and down my spine. It is a pity that Simon is still as rude as ever. I dont think Simon will ever learn not to judge people by apearances.

Iris March 30, 2012 at 5:53 pm

Two things; When I started to watch this I thought it would be another sappy moment from one of these shows where someone with a quite-good voice and a heart warming story gets a reaction. I should have had more faith in you, admin 🙂 When that young man started singing my mouth literally dropped open, and then it brought tears to my eyes. Amazing.

Second, how awesome that he wouldn’t open his mouth because he was so shy and when he finally did speak he said exactly the right thing. I’m sure he knows without Charlotte he would bever have been on that stage and his refusal to dump her and her support of him speaks volumes for the characters of these young people.

SciFiLeslie March 30, 2012 at 9:07 pm

I suspect that he wore the outfit he did on purpose…made it more dramatic. And although I do not watch these types of shows (as I find it in poor taste when they purposely show the bad people so the judges can make bad comments) I have to believe that Simon was aware of both Jonathan’s and Susan’s talent before they first appeared.

Beck March 30, 2012 at 9:18 pm

I’m glad to hear that, Admin. He probably just wanted to “be himself” for BGT and be judged for his singing voice alone.

Kenna March 31, 2012 at 10:14 am

While I do think Charlotte has a nice voice, I agree with Simon in that it is not quite as good as Jonathan’s. However, like many others I don’t believe that Jonathan would have ever gone up on that stage without her. She is exactly the kind of person he needs right now, to help lift his confidence and build his mental strength. If you read some of the bio’s about them, you see that Jonathan had a mental breakdown a few months ago, and that he and his doctor had even discussed whether he was strong enough for this competition. Alone, I don’t think he would be. Even Susan Boyle broke down after the competition.

Charlotte is his strength and support right now, and I think that she is an amazing person for that. And I think that even she knows that she isn’t as good as him, but she’s ok with that and is doing this for his sake. At one point, Jonathan says something like “This is a life changing experience.” and Charlotte quietly says “For you, yeah.”

Whether he goes far in this competition or not, Jonathan has an amazing career ahead of him. Charlotte is the one who is helping him overcome the challenges he is facing to get there, even though she likely does not have the talent for a career in singing herself. That to me is an incredibly selfless act, and she is a hero to that boy for it.

Carrie March 31, 2012 at 4:41 pm

If you look at other youtube videos of the pair, you’ll discover that Charlotte’s voice is every bit as beautiful as Jonathan’s, I think they picked this piece on purpose to really showcase Jonathan.

Lily April 2, 2012 at 6:28 am

If Charlotte was up there alone she would have passed on her own merit, she could really do well as a pop singer with her excellent voice and stunning looks. I think it just wasnt the right song for her at that time.
Jonathan has an incrediable gift and is a very nice young guy, he has a beautiful face isnt hidden by a bit of weight, good luck to both of these talented young people.

jameszck April 10, 2012 at 7:29 am

Fabulous performance amazing job by the two of them you could still pick out Charlotte’s voice
which is very good. Jonathan is on his way to being a star. Charolotte needs to keep working at it she is only 16 and has a beautiful voice should be bring it to full potential. Not only is she beautiful but
comes across as a very intelligent young woman. They will both do very well and I would encourage them to still work on some songs and possibly but out an album as a duo. Good Luck to both of you.
Jonathan has a true friend in her and with her help will gain more confidence as he advances.

Aje April 10, 2012 at 7:50 am

I like Charlotte´s voice… it´s one of those original ones you grow to love the more you hear it.

joan Allison April 23, 2012 at 10:52 pm

Supporting a person in his/her quest to express a talent is also a gift. Let us celebrate that two young persons support each other and want both to succeed. People bashing seems to be a popular “sport” and it is refreshing to witness the opposite: encouragement and appreciation for another’s voice. Not everyone sounds the same; that is why choir music has at least 3 other parts to sing in harmony. Viva the various threads/melodies that enrich our lives. Good fortune in the competition and expressing your gift.

joan Allison June 6, 2012 at 4:48 pm

The “winning” of the competition is not the goal. Being able to share their talent with others and be recognized as worthy is. Time will allow each one of the “duo” to develop in a special way. Bravo for your efforts and sharing the journey together.
