My daughter was just discharged from the icu after being there just short of a month. You tend to talk to other loved ones that you see daily. You don’t remember names, but you know their story, you become each others cheer leaders and rejoice in each small improvement, or morn each step back.
We were very blessed, my daughter is now in a rehab facility, where as we have seen others having to send their loved ones to nursing facilities and worse, taking them home to be buried.
My daughter is 19, she fell down steps, fractured her skull and had a brain bleed. The lady who was across the hall is a 52 year old mother and wife, had a stroke brought on by stress. Her husband doesn’t know if she will ever be able to come home from the nursing home, or even how he is going to pay for it. The young man that was in the room next to my daughter was just married a few months ago. He was playing football with friends. His wife took him home to his eternal resting place.

Got as far as “always wanted a child of her own” and then really couldn’t stop the tears. Trying to adopt at the moment. It’s hell.

This video went around FB a few months back. Gets me every time. Thank you for posting. It really puts a lot of things into perspective for me.

Thank you for this, Ms. Jeanne.
I really appreciate this whole week of positive and heartwarming videos/stories — I agree that it’s easy to get mired down in the bad side of human nature — this week I was reminded that for every rude boor and obnoxious [insert anything here]-zilla out there, there are so many more good, kind people who really do make the world a better place.
(And this last video was a great reminder that sometimes the challenges of life get the better of us all, and that to err is human, but to forgive is divine.)
Thanks again and have a great holiday!

Wow. Just wow. Speechless….I cried throughout.

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”

I’m not usually one for this sentimental stuff, but this was really touching.

The sad stories reminded me why I want to smack people who flippantly say, “Life is good,” never even thinking that so many people have so many heart rending troubles. I never stop thinking about how tough life is for so many people…except when one of them is really obnoxious or my day has been so lousy I just don’t have room in my brain to worry about someone else.

Very good video. What would have made it great would have been a mention of mental illness. Please stop and think the next time you make a “schizo” joke, or tell someone with depression to “just snap out of it”. Mental illness is *illness*, it can be chronic and very physical at the same time. Your brain is a part of your body and it gets sick, too. A small plea.
