P.S., If it matters, I’m female. I don’t use the ” rip it apart and eat the frosting last” method for etiquette reasons either–I just like to save the frosting for last.
What fun! I have personally developed the habit of “addressing” the cupcake from the side with it being tilted very slightly (either towards or away) in order to avoid the worst of a crummy situation. This guy’s approach is unorthodox but pretty creative. Of course, PLAIN or LIGHTLY iced cupcakes are the best- at least in my world. A napkin and teacup with saucer can also cover a multitude of sins…ahem.
I have to admit that I *hate* that way of eating a cupcake. I bake my own cupcakes, spend a significant amount of time decorating them, and watching someone tear it apart and smash it together just really makes me feel like I’ve wasted my time.
How hard is it to take small bites and eat it slowly?
If this is true, I’ve been eating my cupcakes this way for YEARS!
My husband thinks I’m crazy and that this is a disgusting way to do so.
I do, however, have to say that if I’m at a fancy place, I will use a fork to eat a cupcake. But for the most part, I make a cupcake sandwich. It’s just so much easier to eat this way.
Very cute video. Helen, understandable to a point, but the beauty is in the presentation. No matter how it’s eaten, once it hits the mouth, it’s destroyed.
I feel a little miffed that this is considered gentlemanly. Breaking someone’s (possibly homemade, hand-decorated) cupcake apart and smooshing it together? Not the nicest thing, in my opinion. It just shows how little the person appreciates the aesthetic work that someone put into the cupcake, which is what some people love the most about their creations.
Cut it in half vertically and share it with your significant other. Or is that just what I tell my boyfriend? 😉
Also: I’m a hobbyist cake decorator. People often ask me if I’m bothered that my hard work gets destroyed and eaten. My reply is that I make cakes to be eaten. If I want to preserve the design, I take plenty of photos.

I always do that (minus the “sandwich” technique), so I can save the top for last.
A cupcake sandwich, of course! 🙂
I bet this was very yummy video to shoot!
I might just have to try that one with my next cupcake.

I kind of figured at the end of it, he would not eat the cupcake and hand it over to his wife . . . like a gentleman.
I wanna star in the next eating demo- I wonder how many yummy re-takes that took? And who got to wipe his yummy chin?
Well, yeah, but, um…. you know, fork?

been doing it that way for years. I would have taken the candy off the top first, though.
Okay, I wasn’t expecting that method. Granted, I don’t eat cupcakes like a gentleman (or lady). 🙂
