Very true and also very funny, watching what she’s doing while going on her rant! Thanks for posting this.
I love this lady. I first saw this video several months ago, and I couldn’t agree more. I love how she adds chocolate chips, I think, and then the glass of wine to her ice cream at the end of the video.
Preach it, Sister!!!
I tell my four kids all the time, “If you’re not MAD at me once in a while….I’m not being a good mother”!
I love this video.
It’s true that if you are parenting correctly your kids will be mad at you sometimes.
It’s always easiest to just say “yes” and let them run wild. But that does a huge disservice to them and the rest of society.
Could you run your comment past by husband, please? 🙂
While I’m not the greatest mom to ever exist, there have been plenty of “Damn it! It’s late and I’m exhausted, and I do not feel like having this discussion AGAIN!!!”
Awe great message 🙂
This is a good philosophy, absolutely necessary for raising healthy, independent adults. Unfortunately, if parents aren’t supported they will break and give in, just through sheer mental exhaustion. Extended family that is willing to back up the parents and give them a break once in a while and a society that doesn’t judge parents when they dole out consequences to their kids’ bad behaviour are necessary but often not the reality for many parents. There’s that old (and overused) saying “it takes a village …”. It’s true, though, and if we don’t support parents then we can’t expect them to be strong 100% of the time.
+10000 Yes – this!!!
Love this. Very funny, great advice!
Yes… My mother once said she was my friend. I was 14 at the time. No. She couldn’t have been!
But then again, she also said that I was the only thing she lived for. If I was gone she’d give up or something. So that while situation was messed up anyway. I wasn’t even her only child.
Anyway, we weren’t friends. She just really wanted me to be.
This woman is my spirit animal. My father told me many many times while I was growing up, “I’m not your friend, I’m your Dad. There’s a difference”. Absolutely agree with everything she says in this video.
We have been having this discussion with our preteen daughter, who her dad is the head coach of her fall ball softball team.
While we are anywhere else, he is dad and you are his baby girl.
ON the field….He is your coach and you are one of the team….No special treatment.
Not that she has demanded any….just “heading her off at the pass” so to speak.
LOVED this! What I have been saying for years but she says it so much better. Sending this to my nephew and wife who just had a baby. Great advice.
If she’s okay with it, why is she eating ice cream right out of the carton?
Perk of being an adult.
