Update: “Sharing Holiday Food and Recipes Brings Joy”

by admin on January 5, 2017

I thought you might like an update from my submission last year (View HERE). In the comments, I had informed all that my DH and I were expecting, and we’d asked Lena to become a member of our family, being a grandmother to our baby. Lena happily accepted.

In May, we had a beautiful baby girl, and Lena is over the moon about her. We held a christening ceremony earlier this month, and Lena performed the service. It was absolutely perfect. My mom, however, had a surprise for Lena- she’d made several batches of the kolachi roll, and sent Lena home with at least 6 sticks for her enjoyment with Billy through the holiday season. Their sister is planning to join them for Christmas morning, and is also excited to have some Kolach and share family memories.

While Billy’s physical health is starting to decline (and is taking a toll on his mental faculties), he was very excited over the kolachi, and did his best to write a thank you note to my mother, to accompany Lena’s note. He’s also seen pictures of the baby and regularly asks questions about her. Lena and I speak at least once per week by phone, and I’m regularly sending updates and photos, providing “head sugar” (kisses) on Lena’s behalf to the little one, and otherwise enjoying a beautiful friendship.

Lena called last night – I surprised her with a canvas print of a photograph of her and my daughter from the christening. It came out great, and she more than deserves a special something at Christmas. She absolutely loves it (Billy wanted to hang it in his room, she politely refused), and is hanging the portrait next to a photograph of her and her daughter. Lena is finally starting to enjoy the holiday season again, and that is making my Christmas! 1222-16

What a beautiful and heartwarming story. Your little girl is so lucky to be raised in a family that knows how important it is to love freely and generously.

This is beautiful because everyone in it is beautiful. Thinking of others and their needs and joy is what makes it work for all of them. Very nice story and a good example to follow.
