Feel Good Friday – Brontë Sisters Power Dolls

I love this. Just goes to show that sometimes humor can be a more effective means to get a point across.

This is honestly my favourite video ever! I wish I could buy these for my little cousins…

What a great video! That’s a must for any girls to see.
When I was a kid in sixth grade, I tried out to play drum in the junior high band. I performed well for a newbie. The boy competing against me (who played no better than me) was assigned the drum and the reason was: girls were “too small” to carry even a single drum in a marching band. The director assigned an oboe to me. The director had also taken a French horn from my sister (who played it pretty well) because she was “too small” and gave her a flute. She caved, and played the flute, but I handed that oboe right back.

JD, your band teacher was wrong and sexist, no doubt, but what if he’d just said, “JD, I’d like you to play the oboe because we have enough drummers already?”; or, “JD, I assigned you the oboe and Murgatroid the drum, because he tried the oboe last year, and it gave him headaches”; or some other non-sexist reason. Assuming that there’d be someone at the school (like, the band teacher himself, or an older student volunteer) to help bring you up to speed if you didn’t already know how to play the oboe, would you have been okay with it?
