Title: Model competes for the most inappropriate funeral attire award.
Post by: missmolly on May 19, 2014, 04:24:53 AM
Apologies to all non-Australian e-hellions; here's the gist:

Tom Hafey was an Australian sports legend who died recently, and a funeral was held for him at one of Melbourne's biggest sporting grounds. Geoffrey Edelsten, a billionaire not known for good taste, propriety or picking partners with good taste, brought a date wearing this:

At least it's black, and a dress. But apart from that  :o

To quote James Bond: "My, thats a cute little nothing you're almost wearing".

It sort of looks like she was wearing that to get attention. It is possible he wants attention too (from the media, public, etc.) and that's why he brought her.

Either that or he has found his soulmate - someone with the same bad taste in clothing as he has. :P

I dunno, maybe Tom Hafey would've liked it. Like Marga said, at least it's black. Definitely not what I would wear but I've seen people showing up looking worse. Just wondering, isn't it cold in Australia this time of year?

I'd hate to see the other entries for the most inappropriate funeral attire award!

I think it's disrespectful to show up to a funeral in anything that screams "Look at meee!!". I pretty much instantly dislike a person who can't give up the spotlight for a couple of hours, especially when doing so would be out of respect for someone else (or their family). Don't get me wrong, there are a million women who could wear that dress appropriately and I wouldn't think a thing about it. But not to a funeral.

It makes me think of an episode of "Third Rock from the Sun," where Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character brings a date to "this thing for a guy."

I don't know who she is. Maybe this is conservative, for her? The thing that screams out to me is how uncomfortable her feet look in those shoes! Her poor toes, yikes!!

Maybe I'm a little out of it.....but I can't get over the fact that he brought a date to a funeral. I guess, if she knew the person....

makes me think it was one of these: "Hey, lets go to this really fun thing! we can spend all afternoon there! But first I have to stop by my friend's place. I have some business to attend to and it can't be rescheduled." and she's thinking "OK, Cool! The business stuff won't last long and then we can be on to our super cool fun activity of the day!" :o

Then again, I don't know that many 16 year olds who know how to dress for a funeral...whoops! She's 24? And ostensibly in the fashion industry? She should at least have someone on speed-dial who knows better.

Saddest part is, she will not get much name recognition out of this (which is why I assume she's doing it.) She'll just be "that tacky girl". Not what I would think you'd want as a model.

Not what I would think you'd want as a model.

It depends on what kind of modeling work she's looking for.  She's too busty for fashion modeling.

I could see bringing a "date" as in moral support to get you through the grief. I am trying to believe that is her purpose in attending.

Actually we're going through a warm wave right now. It was about 70F on the day of the funeral.

Remember also, that  Melbourne has a very temperate climate. We never get as cold as N. America.

She might as well be wearing a sign that says, "Look at MEEEEE!!!"

In fact, she is. Very tacky IMO.

I couldn't believe the "it was the only black dress I brought with me" line in response.
so you don't have a black dress? Either a) wear something else in a different colour that's more appropriate or b) stop into a store on the way and buy a black dress, black suit, black whatever, or whatever else fits you and is appropriate for the occasion or c) don't attend the funeral and catch up with your 'date' after the service.

It's not like there were no stores- she's in Sydney. She wanted to be noticed, and she has been.

The dress is way too revealing and attention getting.  She could have gotten a little black dress that covered up a lot more of her bosom and still could have gotten attention.

Its all about meeeee, look at meeeee, take my picture, take a selfie with meeee, look at my outfit!  Its like they think the dead guy is just a prop for them to get attention.  Nice people don't do this.

Your date is surely rich enough to buy you a tasteful black dress - or at least a black jacket to wear over what you had on that would make it somewhat more tasteful.

At least it's not a strapless red sequined dress slit to the hip - because Jessica Rabbit's dress is about the only one I can think of that would be worse at a funeral.

Although I suppose a corpse could get away with being buried in any favorite outfit...

The worst part is that's not just a dress - that's a corset worn over a dress that probably would have been okay (it's knee-length!) if the corset wasn't pushing her chest out the top of the dress.  The shoes are really racy for funeral wear.

My cousin came to our grandfather's funeral wearing a tiny black cocktail dress and sky-high club-style wedges.  She wasn't the most inappropriately dressed person there - that honor is probably evenly split between two male attendees.  I suspect one guy wore the only black clothing he had that fit - a t-shirt and a pair of gym shorts.  The other man wore what was probably the only suit he owned - a spectacularly shiny silver number.  It was clearly club-wear meant to grab attention, and just as inappropriate as the model's dress (and my cousin's.)

Add the fact that (as you can sort of see from the photo) Edelstein has dyed his hair in 'Tiger' stripes (Hafey played for a club called the Richmond Tigers whose club colours are yellow and black - Edelstein has attempted to dye his hair in yellow and black stripes) and what you have are two attention grabbing nitwits showing little to no respect for the deceased but instead using the event of his memorial service to advance their own cause and yes it's quite disgusting... as is Geoffrey Edelstein

Ugh.  I just scrolled down all the way to the bottom of the article and abruptly noticed all the accessories she's wearing - leather gloves in the heat, that huge statement necklace, the giant leather bow in her hair, the bright red purse, the enormous bracelets.

The tiger stripe thing is very silly.

It looks like a badly-disguised dirty French Maid outfit, for heaven's sake.  Who brings a date to a FUNERAL??

Although I think the dress was inappropriate , if not for the ginormous bracelets, ring (over black leather gloves) and necklace , hair bow , red purse, too small platform shoes (seriously your toes should not hang over the tops of the shoes)red lipstick and corset (if removable) visible bra straps, she may not have come off "LOOK AT ME!!!!ARE YOU LOOKING ? IF NOT YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AT ME !!!" she would have just looked like a women with large breast and a too low cut dress.

I suspect that the dress by itself is nice.  Looking at the close-up shots you can tell the corset is not part of the dress - in other words, she intentionally chose to enhance her cleavage.

She's dressed more appropriately for one of Charlie's funerals on Two And A Half Men (neither one work safe):

Someone who just divorced his previous blonde trophy wife and is trying to make a point...
