Title: Renamed - Alan Rickman charms my aunt-in-law :)
Post by: SkylerY on February 03, 2011, 01:53:25 PM
Not to make y'all jealous, but my husband's aunt met Alan Rickman today. He spoke to the students at NYU Grad Acting and she reported that he was informative, charming and open to all questions.  Here's a photo she got to take with him (she looks like she can't believe she's in a photo with Alan Rickman!)  Glad to hear firsthand of another celebrity who behaved nicely.

"Sense and Sensibility" and "Truly, Madly, Deeply."  He does unrequited love so well. At least in S&S he finally becomes requited. TMD is SO sweet, with a sniffle-worthy ending.

When I saw the thread title, I was afraid it was going to be a story about Alan Rickman doing something rude, which would have disappointed me because I love him too!  Especially in S&S.  I am so glad it was a story about how nice he is in real life.  I am jealous of your husband's aunt!

I am, but strangely glad it wasn't mee too, I feel kidnapping and imprisonment of the Metatron may not be E-hell approved.  >:D

Yeah, when I saw the title thread I clicked on it with dread. "My man could not have done something rude".

What a delight. Both the story and the nice picture :D

Lapis and I quote this one all the time.    ;D

I cringed opening this, because I really didn't want to read about him being a jerk.  Loooooove the Alan.

So is this a case of where doing something rude (Oh, gee, I dunno - kidnapping and imprisonment of Alan Rickman) would somehow be "justified." (As in, I know it's bad and I don't care)
Title: Re: Alan Rickman

So he waits until AFTER I left NYC to visit NYU!? Perhaps he forsaw that I would likley kidnap him and hide him away, only letting him out to do a movie where I could swoon some more, but always keeping a watchful eye so he wouldn't try to escape so he stalled his visit until he knew he was safe.... hhhmmmmm
Title: Re: Alan Rickman

He should visit Idaho. :P ...just because.

I love in the 5th HP movie this scene:

*paraphrased*

Umbridge: "So you applied for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position?"

Snape: "Yes..."

Umbridge: "But you didn't get it?"

Snape: "Obviously."

:D Oh the snark...

Kidnapping and imprisoning the Metatron is only rude if you refuse to share with your fellow starstruck ehellions.

Otherwise, I'd give it a pass. :)

Your aunt is a very good looking older lady (Sorry was that a strange thing to say? Now I feel weird :P)

Also, that scarf he's holding? I pretty sure we imported those for years.

(I keep a list of celebrities that have bought our products. David Bowie has one of skulls! Princess Michael of Kent bought one of our rugs! and the Dali Lama knelt and said a prayer on another one of our rugs! I'm pretty sure this makes me a huge dork ::))

I love Alan Rickman!!!

Favourite HP moment:
<Harry and Ron whispering during a test>
Cut to Snape pulling up one cuff
<Harry and Ron continue to whisper>
Cut to Snape pulling up other cuff
<More whispering from Harry and Ron>
Snape smacks 'em both on the back of the head.

^My absolute favorite HP moment occurs in Prisoner of Azkaban. I believe it's in the movie, not the book, unfortunately.

I love when Lupin is transforming and the kids are going "oh carp." And Snape comes storming out and getting really in Harry's face, and he hears the werewolf, and in an INSTANT, he is automatically protecting the children. I love that scene. It's like it says no matter how unbelievably angry he is at Harry and his friends, he will still always protect them.

POA scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzZcDHHNINk) Warning: grody werewolf transformation and fight scene

I have to admit that I did NOT like Alan as Judge Turpin, but...that one, he's hard to like!

that is my absolute favourite scene in POA  too.

and im another one who thinks  Robin Hood prince of thieves only worth watching because of him

i couldnt quite remember the quote i loved so had to IMDB it

Sheriff of Nottingham:   Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing  me to hurt the public, and they love him for it?
 [Scribe nods]
Sheriff of Nottingham:  That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas.

On another message board of which I am a member, we have two camps--the Alan Rickman camp, and the Colin Firth camp. Now, personally, I'm in the Colin Firth camp (I particularly like it when he looks all stern about things), but I do love Snape. And I love his voice.

I'm insanely jealous. Despite the fact that he's far too old for me. Alan Rickman is one of my favorite actors, I'm so glad to hear he was nice! I've been a fan ever since I saw Galaxy Quest as a young teenager.

Harry Potter:

I just watched POA and I loved that scene too. It was subtle but it just about melted my heart.

And the Umbridge/Snape conversation - I'd just been trying to figure out why every time I say "obviously" I hear Snape's voice saying it in my head! Now I know!

And another posted answered another big, unanswered question I've had - why do I always feel sympathetic for the Sheriff of Nottingham? It all makes sense now...

Has anyone seen Bottle Shock? It's set in the 70s in California and Alan Rickman plays a greasy, grumpy, English-French wine snob. ;D

Also: I don't know if there's ever been a movie version of Les Mis, but if they were to make one I would absolutely love to see Alan Rickman play Javert.

As a PP mentioned - Bottle Shock is a fabulous movie.

As we all do, I love this man. I'm so glad to hear that he is a quality human being in addition to being a wonderful actor.

He is Snape, IMO, but I think he embues the character with a certain, oh, I don't know, HAWTNESS, that was never envisioned in Rowling's books. I mean, really, why pick that milquetoast James Potter when you could have had Severus Snape? Sigh.

'Cut his heart out with a spoon'

Years ago a friend and I had a Rickmanfest, with pizza and all the best Rickman movies. And "Robin Hood". Though we actually just fast-forwarded to the Rickman scenes. I mean, talk about unbelievable - like Maid Marian would ever have picked doughy ol' Robin over him  ::)

"And cancel Christmas!"

Also, I read years ago on a celebrity discussion board that he is one of the nicest celebs out there, period. Very kind to his fans, which makes me like him even more.

I can't believe I missed this thread before.  I {heart} Alan Rickman!  As someone said earlier, he made Robin Hood watchable. Best.Sheriff.Ever.

I ADORED him in Bottle Shock!  No one else could have mastered his look of pure disdain and shock upon realizing the California wine had won over the French wines.  And of course, in response to Bill Pullman's "Why don't I like you?", Rickman perfectly delivers, "Because you think I'm an a*****e. I'm not really. It's just that I'm British and you aren't."  :-* :P :D

I cannot find a quote though I have Googled for it, but I remember reading that Pauline Kael, the late and very acerbic movie reviewer, absolutely eviscerated "Robin Hood" with the exception of Alan Rickman's performance.  Her comment was along the lines of "I don't know what movie he thought he was in, but it was an infinitely more entertaining movie than 'Robin Hood:  Prince of Thieves.'"

With the wonders of YouTube, you can probably find the good (Alan Rickman) bits without having to watch the whole dreadful thing.

Although, some of the bit parts were played by very good English theater actors. I especially liked Mrs. Little John, when he says something to the effect of "I don't want you to join the fight and get hurt," and she says "I've had children, what do YOU know about pain!"  8)

If you want to see him at his most unctuous and oily try the Barchester Chronicles.  He is just loathsome  as Obidiah Slope.  Just wonderful acting
