Yes, he was a monster.  In the end, he reaped as he sowed.  What is most disturbing to me now, is the fact that we must all be subjected to the video and "play-by-play" descriptions on the news, every fifteen minutes.

Now, while I can understand the usefulness of "proving" that he's actually been executed, I don't care what he wore, if he showed fear, how long it took for him to die...etc, etc.  They're getting positively, disgustingly morbid with some of the questions being asked of those who were there as witnesses.

We've just experienced the death of a former President...and it's being put on the proverbial "page two" of media coverage at the moment, in deference to Saddam and a re-hash of all the atrocities that cost him the ultimate punishment?

Blech!

I wish that they would report things like that once maybe twice and let them go to the history books.

I mean I really don't care about ALL the details of Saddam's death.  He was tried and judged and sentenced, the sentance was carried out.  End story.  If I want to learn more I will go find it. (there are days I don't much like the history channel either.  Especially on the All Hitler Weekends.)

When the Towers Fell I was sooo sick of seeing the TV news telling us and showing us the same thing for hours and days. (I had the TV on when the planes hit, and saw the towers go down. One of the most soul shaking events of MY life)  Same thing with Challenger.

Question?

Is this why we (as a nation) becoming immune to violence?  We have it replayed so often that we are numb to it?

Because when I saw the plane go into the tower all I could think of "its a movie, has to be a movie."

I agree with you to some extent. I think it is very important to show some visual proof that he is dead, so that all of the innocents tormented by him know that he is indeed gone forever now. I wanted to see that proof myself. However, I don't want this video or image to be paraded around on the Internet forever, like it is some Hollywood movie. Not only that, but you can better believe that people will take the videos/images and photoshop them, edit, add pics, images, etc. And then pass this off as the truth! It happened tons of times with 9/11. But the Iraqi govt. has no control over that aspect.

Cyndi-you are not wrong for feeling the way you do. You are a human being with a conscience, unlike a monster like Saddam.

I think so.  There are psych experiements that prove this on an individual basis; the logical extension of this is on the national or global level.  That is disturbing in the extreme.

I agree as well.  I just hate the death penalty in any form.  So many innocent people have been executed over the years that any execution leaves me with a sick feeling and regret.  I am also sickened by public displays of rejoicing, it reminds too much of a Roman Coliseum (sp?), I would like to think we have evolved past that.
