Cupcakes For Fall Class Reunion
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:22:28 PM »
My high school class reunion is coming up next month.  I just found out there is a picnic planned as part of the reunion weekend and people are asked to bring something to share.  DH and I discussed cupcakes - we watch shows like Cake Boss and Cupcake Wars and, while we're not on par with that, are inspired by them and would like to make something from scratch.  First, it's fall, it's outdoors - I originally thought of doing something fall-themed.  Then I thought, because it is a class reunion, I'd do something that involves our school colors (blue & gold).  Can I combine the two, or just pick one (I can't picture doing, say, pumpkin spice with those colors).  Oh - we're driving in from another state the night before and staying at my parents' house - if we're quite, I'm sure we can do the bulk of the work that night.

Anyway... suggestions for cupcake types???

You could combine the two but personally I'd vary the designs and have two flavours if you're doing a lot.

The hard part of cake decorating is the decorations. You can pre-make decorations and symbols out of flower paste or similar and they will travel easily.

How about a mimosa cupcake (which would get your gold) in blue cupcake papers? Or a apple cupcake w/ cream cheese frosting (and use the cupcake papers for the school colors again)?

They're not from scratch, but these key lime cupcakes  were a big hit when I brought them to a potluck.  Afterwards, one lady who asked me for the recipe substituted lemon jello and lemon juice and said they turned out well also, if you wanted gold cupcakes.
