Thank you note for gift cards?

By the time I spend the gift card, it will probably be 10-12 days from the day the gift was given.  I was wondering what you guys would do.

I would go ahead and send the note now. Maybe you could tell the giver how much you enjoy that store?

If it were me I would just mention something about the store/products I love.

I think it's fun to know what the person got with the card, so I wouldn't mind getting the thank you note later with all the details.

It's not necessary to acknowledge how you used the card.  When people send me gift cards from clothing stores and the like, I say that the store is one of my favorites and I can't wait to go shopping.  If it's from a store like Wal-Mart or Target, I say that it's so generous for them to send the card because of course it will come in handy and I can always use it (I've been getting a lot of Target cards since I had the baby, earmarked for diapers and other baby-related stuff).

If I'm given gift cards, I sometimes don't spend them for awhile.  However, the only person who gives me gift cards routinely is Mr. Sirius, and the cards are mainly for Barnes&Noble.  He and I both love to read, and we feel that picking out books is something a person should do for themselves.  He did give me Sue Grafton's latest for Christmas, but he knew I'd been reading the series since before we got married, and knew I had all the other books in the series.

I'd go ahead and send the thank-you note, and perhaps mention what I have in mind for the gift card when I'm ready to use it.
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.
