I guess this would bother me less if I knew she had read it.  I realize some people don't reread books, so giving them away is appropriate.  Neither of us throws books in the trash and most of our friends also decline to do this.

However, I still wish she had told me whether she had read it or liked it first.

She sounds a bit clueless.

I am of the opinion that the recipient is allowed to do whatever they choose with the gift I have given to them.  It is now their property to do with as they wish.  However, I hope they wouldn't mention in passing that they re-gifted it.

Since this person has a long track record of passive-aggressive behavior my knee-jerk reaction is to wonder whether there was an ulterior motive or unconcious hostility.  Still, I don't think I'm out of line in thinking that it's utterly tacky to tell someone you gave away something they gave you unless it was a duplicate or (not applicable here) the wrong size.
