Not Sure If Exactly Bean-Dipping, But...

So I have a friend (Marc) who occasionally says things to be contrary. He's normally pretty nice, but sometimes he can just get on my nerves. I felt like this win for etiquette best belonged here.

The conversation went thusly:

Me: *talking about government programs*
Marc: I'm going to use those government programs to my advantage, because I'm better than other people using them.
Me: Okay.
Marc: I'll be rolling in money.
Me: Okay
Marc: I mean, just look at me, I'm a much better person than they are.
Me: Okay.
Marc: ... How's everyone's lunch?

I'm really happy that I didn't give in to snark like I normally do with this guy. Thank you, eHell, for your wise ways. :)

I would be tempted to egg him on simply because I'm mean like that.

"Oh?  How are you better than everyone else?" said curiously.

You did well not to feed the troll; I'd do it on purpose and give him enough rope to with which to hang himself.

I really need to work on that.

OP, good for you for not engaging the crazy!  I use this same type of technique with my DH.  He seems to think that by saying really outrageous things that I'll argue and he "gets my blood moving".  All it takes is a few, bladly stated, "okays" and he backs off because he can't get me going.
