The supermarkets around here put up tents in their parking lots for Valentine's and Mother's Day - like they do at Christmas for trees - filled with flowers and candy and a temporary cash register for quick shopping.

I'm sure at some point, some enterprising soul is going to actually set up a drive thru.

I regularly walk past a Godiva store and VDay is hilarious! The line stretches out the door and nearly into the street!

See's Candies factory and factory store are very near my home. The line goes down the block!

Where's the factory?  I know of one of the main stores (Roscoe or Saticoy in Canoga Park?) but not the factory.

So yesterday was Valentine's Day.  I don't really pay attention, since I'm perpetually single.  My married ski buddy at work sent out an email on Thursday, to see if anyone wanted to go skiing Friday after work.  I was the only one to take him up on the offer.  His wife's final words on the subject as he left in the morning:

Have fun, see you around 8:00.  No kissing Outdoor Girl!

When buddy told me that, I just laughed.

(And it was a great evening of skiing - quite quiet on the hill and we got lots of runs in for the short time we were there.)
After cleaning out my Dad's house, I have this advice:  If you haven't used it in a year, throw it out!!!!.

place near me (garden centre with in house florists) does this for all big holidays.  can either pre order and collect or buy one of the 5 options they have ready made.   i deliberately avoid the area on those days as it is packed!

We had so much fun eating pizza and watching college basketball last night (Go Devils!), that we have decided to make that our Valentine's Day tradition. Flowers, gifts and fancy dinners can wait.

No good heart-shaped boxes left today.  Not that I should eat much of that stuff.

My regular drug store is now open 24/7, so that must have been the main reason.  I actually saw people buying this stuff at midnight last night, just after the markdown.

I bought 30 boxes of chocolate for $1 for each of the companies and staff I'm managing. I'm still trying to come up with a witty name for Feb 18th when they'll get it Maryland #### Black Delphinium • The Black Flower • Member • Posts: 8232 ##### Re: Your holiday hill to die on. « Reply #1297 on: February 15, 2014, 07:09:12 PM » I bought 30 boxes of chocolate for$1 for each of the companies and staff I'm managing.

That would be Queen Mary Tudor, daughter of Henry VIII and Katharine of Aragon. It's her birthday. (Also DD2's -- she was MOST miffed when she found out who shared her birthday!) Edited because I really do know which English king married Katharine of Aragon! « Last Edit: February 16, 2014, 12:24:52 PM by Elfmama » ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Common sense is not a gift, but a curse. A family member sells Mary Kay (no parties just reorders). Every Christmas and Valentines Day she makes gift baskets of bath products and takes them to auto body and oil change businesses. She sells out quickly every year.

Now THAT is a good idea!

Even funnier than the long lines are the 'deer in the headlights' looks of the men waiting.

This year will be especially interesting because we're going through a ghastly Nor-Easter today.

"Dear Lord, let them have the chocolate she likes. And let me remember which one it is."

To whom you speak,
Of whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where.
