My only input to everyone else's thoughtful responses is that a neighbor recently cut down a stand of equally tall trees.

He got fined heavily because of some protected birds that were nesting in the trees. So you might want to time the cutting of the trees to when falcons or eagles or whatever wouldn't be nesting in them.
