Question on the rules...

I understand and agree with the forum rules except something has bothered me...and I wasn't sure if I should clarify this in private or not, but here goes.

In a recent thread, it came up that people who write porn on the side were not welcome here but it was not mentioned on the thread of "Why people were banned" or the updated forum rules.  Is this truly something that would ban a member and if that's true, why? Are there other things one would do that is not connected to this forum and does not mention this forum that would get a member banned as well?

EHellDame elaborated on this in another thread (I forget which, sorry): writing porn in itself is not a banable offense. However, sharing it by link here is, as it crosses the TMI scrabble line.

Sending unsolicited porn in a PM is a banable offense, as is writing illegal (e.g. kiddie) porn no matter what.

I am not a moderator but this is how I understood it:

It does not matter what you do in your spare time as long as you  don't connect it to this site by either mentioning it on this site or by mentioning this site in the places where you do the things that you are not allowed to publicise here.

Keep it strictly seperated and you're good. People didn't get into trouble because of what they did in their spare time, but because they didn't keep it seperated from e-hell.

This concerned me too. I PMed the Dame and got an answer that I'll paraphrase as: as long as people here don't know about it, it's fine. It's sort of a "don't ask, don't tell" and they won't go looking kind of thing. I can deal with that.

I re-read the rules this morning, and nothing was said there (in the updated rules) about someone who does being unwelcome.  I respect that there is no need to share private "scrabble" details or interests, but I was incredibly offended at the judgmental nature of saying somebody was not welcome *simply* because they wrote explicit scrabble material elsewhere, when doing so had no connection whatsoever to this forum.

I saw the same thing. It surprised me, because it didn't seem to fit with what I knew of this forum. So, I PMed the Dame. She and the Mods have made it clear that they are happy to answer questions like that. If this is still bothering you, I suggest you write to the Dame and ask for yourself. Her answer satisfied me or I wouldn't still be here.

I think it's a good rule.

I had a coworker who decided to show everyone at work (including customers) photos of himself engaged in the rather extreme sport of Nude Skydiving. We had no objection to him *doing* it, but it wasn't something we wanted to see in the office.

There will always be people who don't understand what's appropriate when and where, and must have it spelled out (dare I say?) explicitly.
