DH works overnight at a retail outlet store. On his break he goes to a convenience store / gas station to get a paper, a coffee and a snack. he knows the employees well since he does this every night.
Last night he noticed 2 smallish dogs running around in the parking lot. He checked with patrons ... not their dogs , he asked the clerk and she said they had been ther efor a while and kept trying to get into the store. ( Small collie type - but he said bigger than a Sheltie and a little Boston Terrier wearing a coat (
At his request she called the local police ad they said they could do nothing call animal control ( not open yet )
So he bought a sausage sandwich , lured them over and checked them out. They were well cared for ( muddy and hungry though ), had dog licenses with an address and phone number. It was the vets number and of course at 2:00 am - no answer.
he called his supervisor and asked if he could take a long lunch break and make it up explaining about the dogs. So he loaded them in my car ( he drove it last night on a whim ) got them settled on my new fleece jacket and drove to the police station in the town where the tags were.
He was very afraid they would get out onto the highway or road and get hit.
At the police station -the person at the desk said she was not able to help. he used his magic sad puppy eyes ( he is a big 6 2 teddy bear ) and she agree t olook up the phone from the address,
Got hold of the owners - the dogs had broken through the electric fence - they had been looking for them for an entire day. They were from way on the other side of town.
The owner wanted to give DH some money - which DH refused, he told them to donate it to the shelter if they wanted.
So - he missed an hour of pay and my leather seats are kind of muddy. But the pups are home safe.
