A dumb question-how to get glue off plastic?
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:00:14 PM »
Okay, so one of my b-day gifts from mom was a large, red, plastic measuring cup (she knows I am redoing my kitchen in red). It's a very nice measuring cup, but it came with sticker on it. I got the sticker off, but I cannot get the @#%$^ glue off! Anyone have any tips? I know I should probably already know the trick to remocing the glue, but I just don't. Please help!

What have you got? Is it food? Is it for me? I want it whatever it is!

If you have it, butane lighter fluid works a treat. Put a few drops on, let it sit for a minute or two and it'll wipe right off.

Rubbing alcohol/window cleaner - then try non- acetone nail polish remover.  Baby oil or vegetable oil may also work - and the vegetable oil will come off when you wash it before using it!

Thanks for all the tips!

I just tried the hairdryer tip and it worked like a charm! Now, why did I not think of that myself?

Goo Gone is fantastic but WD 40 also works.  Glad the hair dryer trick worked!
After cleaning out my Dad's house, I have this advice:  If you haven't used it in a year, throw it out!!!!.

Glad it helped. If you do this before you take off the label then the whole thing just slides right off, no wiping or scrubbing needed.

My first vote was gonna be goo gone but peanut butter also works... let it sit overnight.

I'm glad that you got it off. I hate those sticker that leave sticky behind. I really hate the ones that refuse to come off in one piece. My favorite remover is De-Solv-it.

I'm fan of WD-40: the stuff you use to un-stick things that are stuck.
If you need to stick things together, the go-to is duct tape. :)

Glad you got it off.  I think I just use regular old vegetable oil.
