My advice would be to give what you and your budget are comfortable with. The idea of comparing the value of gifts is very uncomfortable to me. In the extreme (I am not saying that you do this, Venus, I am just using a hyperbole), I can imagine someone sitting down and calculating if they "broke even" or "made a profit" this holiday season.

Thanks, everyone.  I think I will do a family gift and a small individual one for the sister from now on.
