Just plain decent folks...
White Dragon:
I work for a newspaper and today we got a complaint call.
Apparently, our newspapers were spread "all over" a side street.
My coworker and I arrived to find that someone had (according to witnesses) driven by in the night and dumped several piles of newspaper on the sidewalk. These then blew open overnight and covered about 3 city blocks. It was a horrendous mess!
Coworker and I called the office to report the situation. Uberboss called the other paper in town (since their papers were also involved) and said he'd come to help.
We started clean up and before we'd gone very far, drivers were stopping to lend a hand. Homeowners came out to give us garbage bags and one lady had some bags in her car. A few families stopped and got their children involved.
We thanked everyone profusely for their help and they all pretty much said the same thing "We couldn't just leave you here to do this by yourself."
One homeowner even paid the children (out of his own pocket) for helping!
All in all, there were about 15 people helping and it took us a bit over an hour to clean it all up. It would have taken coworker and I all day if we'd had to do it ourselves! Plus the wind kept spreading the mess out so we kept having to redo areas!
All these people, who were on the way about their own business stopped and stepped up. I'm still really mad at the vandal who made the mess, but I'm so proud of the community at large!
