Lol, I guess my brain is hurting as to why you were "all  ???  >:("

It's clear you don't like this woman, but that sounds like a sympathetic "don't give up", even if she phrased it oddly.

It was the tone of her voice, it's not easy to describe but that made all the difference. It was almost like she was implying that I wouldn't be worthy of actually getting a job I would like. I haven't spoken in ages with her but it struck me as odd and a bit mean, not what I was expecting.
I'm sorry that she has had all that happened to her, I only hear bywords of what is up with her everyonce in a while and I do think that she's pretty brave with all the things life's handed her on a plate. And I understand that people in her situation can become somewhat bitter - it's just that she's barely an acquaintance of mine now, so I wasn't expecting the slighting.

Good point. I can see tone making a huge difference.

Right... I'm guessing BF must be fairly busy.  I just tried asking him, a Star Trek nerd, this:

me:  What is Star Trek V called again?
Sent at 7:40 PM on Tuesday
 Him:  in?
 me:  Um... the subtitle?
 Him:  nop idea
 me:  Star Trek V?
The Cowpath to Trona Pinnacles? <<note: we're local to the area, I was poking fun of the fact that if you're from around here, you'll notice a small road into the Center of the Universe>>
 Him:  maybe
 me:  Eh, I'll google it XD;
The Final Frontier =P;
 Him:  ok
 me:  ...The movie?
 Him:  Star Trek five then
 me:  Nevermind

 :o

He must have been busy.  Star Trek V: Shatner's Ego Trip is seared into the minds of all who've seen it.

That's the sixth and final installment of that series.

Undiscovered Country was actually pretty good.  The movies that followed were, by and large, junk (except First Contact, which was merely "meh".)

Of course, the absolute worst of the series is the latest one by JJ Abrahms (these are the voyages of the starship Apple Store)

Nooooo - I really enjoyed the Abrams film! The beginning makes me cry each time I see it.

You mean the USS Lens Flare?
(I love that movie to bits, but the lens flare on every reflective surface bugs me).

Head hurty conversation from boss:

Boss: Round this amount up.
Me: OK. <changes code to round up amount>

Boss: This doesn't match the manually calculated total now!
Me: That because you told me to round up the automatically calculated total.
Boss: But it has to match!
Me: But the manual calculation is accurate, the automatic one is rounded up. It will almost never match. Do you want me to take the rounding up off?
Boss: No no! It has to be rounded up.

I wish I could claim that one.  SFDebris has corrupted me that badly.  :)

I may be low brow, but I love all the ST:TNG and the ST movies. My favorite is Insurrection.

The minute I came in to the office today, I was informed about the helicopter crash in London. I am very sorry that it happened, but I work in Florida, and have no friends or relatives in London proper. It made my brain hurt.

OOooops!  I got the name wrong.  Which was the one where they journey to the planet where God supposedly resides?  They ultimately find an unexplained Poseidon monster that tries to kill them.  They escape, the end.  (Shatner wrote that one).

THAT is Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (of Shatner's bloated ego).  It is widely regarded to be the worst of all Trek, narrowly beating out anything else Shatner had a personal hand in.
