NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  >:(

Forgive the shouting, but Lynn SO did not go there. She did not. If this week's strip ends with Paul and Liz breaking up (you know she's going to throw us another Jim-and-Iris curveball tomorrow, you just know it - and just for the record, about Jim and Iris, I. Don't. Care) - well, then, Lynn and I are SO OVER.

Who am I kidding? You know I'm going to read this strip to its bitter, predictable and sappy end. I HATE HATE HAAAAAAAATE the Mike and Dee thing, because I can't stand Deanna as it is. I hated Anthony, and still hate him. It looks like every time Liz has a new and tantalizing possibility that could work out, Lynn comes along like that big Monty Python foot and crushes all the poor girl's hopes and dreams. Really, what's she got against that girl? Doesn't she deserve to be happy someplace other than in her hometown? I mean, most people don't live and die where they grew up anymore. They haven't for centuries now. And it hasn't exactly killed off the world population yet, has it?

Get with the times, Lynn. Just because you don't get buried where you were born doesn't mean that you can't live a satisfying, full, rich life. Get Liz out of Milborough pronto, hook her up with Paul, or I will have your head on a platter. Honestly.

*sigh* I hate the new development too, but... Seems to me it' just comics echoing real life. Unless Liz gets back with Anthony, of course... But seriously, how many of us DON'T have exes who screwed up when they dumped us and regret it now? And how many of us haven't been... jilted by that man we thought was perfect for us? (usually one of the ones who will figure out when it's way too late how much they messed up!) Of course in real life... too late is too late.

I was rooting for Paul, but I knew it wasn't going to happen as soon as we saw who the 'new teacher' was. The LDR thing is just too easy to mess with. I'm hoping Lynn is not so predictable (and soooo unrealistic!) as put Liz and Anthony together  (he just creeps me out with that mustache!) but... I am not hopeful. I am off to read my daily dose!

Oh, and count me in as one who doesn't care about Iris and Jim. I mean... I ope he gets better, but those are the most BORING strips!!!

A little part of me is holding out hope that Paul's intentions were totally sincere and that he's up there helping Susan plan her wedding to some other guy or she was helping him pick out an engagement ring, and when he realizes how easily Liz's faith in him was shaken, he realizes that the relationship isn't working out, or they at least have a long, loNg talk.  But I like Liz, and I do want her happy.  I just don't want happy to be with Anthony.  I like Anthony, too, but he seems like he needs someone new, and someone who wants the domestic life.  I'd really like to see Liz hook up with Warren.

And adding to the childhood sweethearts- April's been with Gerald for three years now.  Long time at that age!

I'm hoping it was fairly innocent, too, but I just don't have that much faith in Lynn Johnston anymore.

I mean, there's a sort of guilty expression drawn on Susan's face that could be taken one of several ways, but the way she let Liz into the apartment without any hesitation gives me a small glimmer of hope that it could all be innocent. But a very, very small one.

So much for the hope that it was just an innocent get-together by old friends. I guess Paul wasn't "Mr. (W)Right". And since Warren was never a stable fixture in Liz's life, it looks like it's back to childhood sweetheart Anthony. Bleeegh!  >:(

I am really disappointed in how this turned out. Although I knew Paul & Liz's relationship was doomed when she decided to move south, I never expected Lynn to make another serious boyfriend of Liz's cheat on her again. Between Paul and Eric, I can see Liz being so burned on men that she happily will fall back to the past with Anthony. What a disappointment.  :(

And see post #3, made on January 4th - aargh.

She arrives one day early, and catches Paul with replacement teacher (and replacement significant other). And this took 8 days to play out? For such a stupidly written resolution?

Aargh. If I could, I'd stop reading this darn strip.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (maybe even from Lynn herself) that Lynn's first husband (before Rod) cheated on her.

Too bad she has to take it out on poor Liz.

I used to be with Team Anthony but then I started to really like Paul and hoped that he and Liz would be able to create a happy new life together in the north.  Now it looks like that won't happen and Anthony is in luck.  Lynn shoulda been much more creative.

Liz will get an instant stepdaughter into the bargain, too!  AND have to be civil with Therese for the sake of Francoise!  Sheesh.

I do feel sorry for Liz.  And I guess back to Anthony she goes.

But did anyone notice this in today's strip:

"one thing LEAD to another"?!

Come on, Lynn's intelligent, her team is presumably intelligent, her editor at the syndicate is presumably intelligent, and NO ONE caught that?!

UGH. I am SO disgusted with Lynn Johnston that if I could stop reading this stupid strip, I would.

Why, why, WHY must she take out her infidelity issues on the poor middle child? And why doesn't she quit with this trend of everyone hooking up with their high-school (or junior high school) sweethearts?? It's so unrealistic!

If Lynn had any sense she'd hook Liz up with Warren, however much of a wanderer he is, and have them live happily ever after. His heart seems to have stayed pretty constant over the years. You know that's not how it's gonna play out, though.

I spent the week in dread.  And why did everyone let her come to visit without warning her!  Not to mention, Paul was going to tell her at the bus station!  He was going to let her spend money and time on a plane and bus ticket and then go, by the way "we're done.  So sorry".

She spent the last how many months avoiding new men while he lied to her.  I know her visit was about the town as well and she'll have a good time with old friends and old students.  But I think after the court case she should fly around with Warren.  Just say no to Anthony.

Warren is still carrying a torch for Liz. I haven't given up hope for him yet.  :'(

We get the Sunday paper Saturday night (just the inside, the comics and such, the rest gets delivered on Sunday, go figure).  FBOW made me chuckle when I read it.  I commented on it to DH and DD.  DD sighed.  "You know, I can't even read that any more.  If I want depressing storylines, I'll turn on a soap opera."

Wise child.

Wise child indeed. But FBorFW is just like a soap opera, IMO - once you get hooked, you stay with it to the bitter end. I'd stop reading it if I could, but I'm going to keep reading it just to keep getting mad at the way Lynn does things in her little universe.

I don't like how she made Paul into such a coward. I mean, ok, (ostensibly) he's human and he makes mistakes, but if he had any conscience at all he wouldn't have led Liz on like that. And that "Paul is a Northerner, he could never leave here" line from Viv - I'm sorry, but I call BS on that! People leave home all the time and it doesn't kill them. Here everyone is, making excuses for Paul, and no one is on Liz's side.

What he did just wasn't right, and if I were Liz I'd probably be changing that plane and bus ticket to turn around and go right back home. I wouldn't be able to stand to look at the faces of people who basically didn't alert me to what was going on under their noses because it was "none of their business" and "he belongs here" - which implies that Liz doesn't belong.

OK, I'm getting myself way too worked up over a stupid comic strip. But I've been such a champion for Paul that I feel like I've been played for a fool, just like Liz has. I hope Susan realizes that she's been duped, too, and gets angry at him like he deserves. Otherwise that will serve to make me dislike Susan even more.

Actually, the one person I feel the sorriest for is Jesse. It's not fair that the kid formed such an attachment to Liz and she did keep her promise to visit him. But I'd lay odds that he'll never see her after this trip. With such an end to her relationship with Paul, I can't imagine Liz wanting to set foot in Mtigwaki ever again--even to see Jesse. I wonder if we'll see him next week before Liz leaves.
