"...And that's when I killed him, Your Honor!"
« on: December 06, 2006, 05:52:15 PM »
I'm in for a rather amusing afternoon:

My kitchen sink (the bain of my existence in this house) has sprung yet another leak.  It's possible that in the last cold snap, a pipe in the wall has cracked.  I couldn't be more excited, had I awakened with my head sown to the carpet this morning!

I called the landlord on Monday.  Hadn't heard anything by today...so I bird-dogged it myself.  The plumber will be here in the next couple of hours.

Mr. Diva then tells me that the plumber who is coming, is the brother of a former girlfriend!  He decided it would be best to get outta Dodge for the afternoon.  When he left, he was dressed to the nines!

"So," says I.  "You're off to the Cafe to flirt with your new little girlfriends, while I'm here trying to get the sink fixed by the brother of a former girlfiend. (Yes, girlfiend...it's not a typo.  lol)  Give them my regards, and try to find one with more money than I have! "

He really doesn't have any "girlfriends."  And I know all the waitresses at the Cafe, where he'll be.  "I'll call and give you the 'all clear,' when he's gone...ya big chicken!"

::)  As the title of the thread reads:  ...and that's when I killed him, Your Honor!  lol

Ughhhh!  I'm STILL waiting for the plumber!  Good news is that it's not the pipe break I thought it was.  Now that things have had a day or three to dry out, I went under the sink and turned on the water.  It's just a simple hose that needs to be replaced.

I called the plumber nearly an hour ago, to find out what happened to him.  He'd forgotten about me!  Thanks a pantload, pal!

Mr. Diva is home and not going out again.  lol  I wish this guy would hurry up!  Today is the last day off I have, before Monday!

Waaaaaahhhh!

And STILL waiting...  Not even a phone call from this guy!  I'm seriously thinking that if I don't hear back from him tonight, I will call someone else, when I get to the office in the morning.  What IS it with these repair people?  Is it too much to ask that they call to let me know they've been delayed, but haven't forgotten they were supposed to be here today?

If he doesn't care enough to leave a message in the first place...and then makes an agreement to come out this afternoon, then "forgets"....only to, when reminded with yet another phone call from me, say "I'll be there shortly"....and "shortly" turns into never...

I can only surmise that he really isn't interested in the business.  He has no idea that he's coming to Mr. Diva's house (we don't use the same last name).  For all he knows, I'm just another customer...who is probably going to use someone else now.

What he ALSO doesn't know, is that I work for the Chamber of Commerce.  I have people calling me all the time for recommendations on such services.  Guess who won't be getting one from MY office?  (I won't badmouth him.  I simply will "forget" he exists...just like he "forgot" I did!)

Ugh, the whole situation sounds so frustrating. Did he ever call or show up?

Nope!  I haven't heard another word!  And I can't use my sink...haven't been able to, without flooding the floor, for several days now.  This is ridiculous!  I'm beginning to think that if his sister is anything like her plumber brother...it's no wonder Mr. Diva went screaming into the night!

That's ridiculous.  Call someone else, and if he shows up or calls, tell him he didn't get back to you in a timely fashion, so you got someone else to do the job he obviously didn't want.

(I used to be Vegakitty, but I managed to mess things up so royally that now I'm Sirius, which, ironically, is the brightest star in the winter sky.)

It is ridiculous!  I'm not calling him again.  And I sincerely hope he doesn't attempt to come tomorrow, when I'm at work.  Especially if it's in the morning and Mr. Diva is sleeping.  Hooooo boy!

I'll call another plumber from the office and go from there.  Utterly absurd!  I've wasted an entire day, sitting around waiting for this jerk!

I must know! Did you get the hose fixed yet? Was another plumber able to make it out? Did you hunt this plumber down and beat him with your wet towels from having to clean up water any time you used the sink?

What is it service providers who can't keep an appointment?  I can understand emergencies, but "I forgot"?  I once had a furnace tune-up scheduled and got a call 15 minutes before my appointment time to let me know that they "didn't feel like" driving to my part of town that day.  I suppose I should be grateful they bothered to call me.

Diva I hope that you will have your sink back in order soon.

I have 2 lists:
1- One of service people that are late, never show or incompetent. This is our don't call and don't refer list
2- This is of service who are timely, polite and competent. This is the list we use and refer people from.

There are a couple of businesses I don't understand how they stay open. You would think that it is in the company's best interest to be reliable.

I never did hear back from that plumber last night.  So I called another friend we know...whom I didn't know did plumbing work.  He came over today.

The plumber who blew me off yesterday, called today while I was at work.  Mr. Diva told him I'd already made other arrangements.  He apologized, but unfortunately, it didn't do him any good.  I HAD already made other arrangements!

The sink still isn't fixed though.  Probably tomorrow.  By the time our friend came over, the hardware store had closed and he couldn't get over there to buy the replacement part.  *sigh*  What's one more day?

Funny thing is, I also have a downstairs toilet that needs new "guts."  So our friend is getting that job too.  And if necessary, I'll pay him myself and let the landlord either take it off my rent, or reimburse me.

The plumber who ignored me, actually ignored more than my sink.  He could have had another job on top of that, but...oh well!  You snooze, you loose!

Besides...I didn't really want Mr. Diva's ex-girlfriend's brother in my house doing anything.  I wasn't comfortable with that, once I knew who he was.
