Dog, Neighbor's Cat and the IRS
« on: January 03, 2007, 11:42:00 PM »
As some of you know, Mr. Diva's and my theatre company is in the process of obtaining our 501(c)(3) non-profit status.  Just before Christmas, I got a call from the IRS caseworker, stating that she was recommending us for approval.  There was only one "little detail" we needed to take care of:  We had to send in an additional $450 for the application fee.

She sent a letter giving us until yesterday to remit the amount, but said that we would be granted an extension of 14 days, if we needed it at that time (yesterday).  Since it was virtually impossible to get a board meeting together between then and now, I needed to call the IRS today (they were closed yesterday because of the National Day of Mourning for President Ford) to tell them we did indeed need the extension.

So...I'm on the phone with a different agent, when someone comes to my door.  I answer the door quietly to accept a delivery...and the neighbor's CAT somehow slips inside the house, without my realizing it.

Pretty soon I hear my male Basenji, Foley, spazzing out in the corner by the front door.  He has the cat cornered, and it's hissing and growling...he's "tazzing out"...and I'm trying to explain the situation to the IRS agent, while peeling my dog off the neighbor's cat! (He didn't hurt the cat...it was just a lot of noise.)

The guy started laughing and I apologized.  "Let me put you on hold and pull your file."  "Please do!"  While I was on hold, I was able to peel the dog away from the cat and toss him outside.  Then grabbed the cat and tossed HIM out the front door.

The guy came back on the line and laughed.  "Yes, M'am.  A 14 day extension will be no problem at all.  Good luck with your animal situation."

Yeesh!  LOL

ETA:  And wouldn't you know it was a BLACK cat at that!  LOL

A'int it the truth?  LOL  I'm surprised the Blue Chicken didn't start screaming from the other room, while we were at it!

Indeed!  Though I was hoping for an extension 'til the end of the month.  But 14 days works too.  I wasn't going to push it, under the circumstances!  All I could envision was him telling me, "Lady you're not running a theatre company, you're the Executive Director of a zoo...and that's not covered by your application."  LOL

You probably made that guy's day!  i can't imagine too many people call the IRS and end up with stories like that.

So when is the charity benefit to buy your neighbor a cat proof fence start? is it going to run in tandem with the one to raise the application fee?
By the way, do you have snow??
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

A Benefit?  Heyyyyyy!  What a great idea!  I'll charge....$25/person (vs BenefitBoy/EntitlementGirl's admission fee of $20...after all, Mr. Diva went to Juilliard!  lol)....line up musicians to play for free...get the venue to donate it for the "performance"....and rake it in!

Yes, we have snow...but it's the "limited edition" kind.  lol
