Length of signature limits number of lilypie kids?
« on: March 08, 2012, 11:45:33 PM »
I have a signature that lists my kids and their ages, using lilypie.  However, because of the character length allowed for the signature, I can't add another lilypie to my list.  I would have liked to add another one, since I'm expecting.  Does anybody know any good alternate way to do this, without adding length to the signature?  I guess, if nothing else, I'll just have to ditch the cute little lilypie tickers and switch to a text signature that just gives their ages, and update them from time to time.  I just think sometimes it's pertinent in stories how old the kids you mention are, etc., and that way I don't have to state them every time.

I could be wrong on this, but i think there was a poster who recently had her fourth child and added another signature so there were two rows of two signatures. I think hers had pictures though, so they might be from elsewhere.

Maybe someone knows of poster or company?

BTW, congratulations!

Yes that was skylerY, and she has lilypie tickers too. I was curious about this so I tested it out.
So you go to the lilypie website, pregnancy ticker, choose between the development ticker or days and weeks ticker then there's an option for mini ticker or full size, choose the mini me ticker and then add all the details. When the sig is created look under forum tickers for the PseudoHTML, UBBCode™ and BBCode option

It may look like something like this

Add to sig. Repeat process for all sigs.

Congrats on the pregnancy

Is there any way to compress them? That is still a large signature line to scroll by when reading. I like the signature line and change mine often; but when the tracker bit or pictures are that big it can get cumbersome to read posts.

I don't think so, but with my ticker example, it is still smaller than the one mommy penguin has now, so presmably allowed in the rules

I'm sorry, i wasn't saying you aren't; but 4 tickers would take up a lot of space. That's why i was wondering if they could be modified. I may be misunderstanding.

Well, the problem wasn't the space issue, it was the number of characters you're allowed.  I switched to the minitickers to make it less annoyingly long (better now?), but that doesn't actually allow me to keep all four plus the link to my blog, just because there are too many characters required to give the urls.  I'm not sure if there's any way to fix that.  I guess I'll have to give up my blog link for now.

Can you use one of the "make a shorter link" services to reduce the size of your ticker URLs?

An excellent idea, but unfortunately it doesn't compress them enough.  The urls themselves are a bit shorter, but the amount of UBB code required to get the links in there is a lot, and that's what takes up most of the space.  I have *almost* enough characters but not quite.  Ah, well.

My solution to that is to disable sigs altogether.  I frequently read from my phone, so it makes much easier to view without them.

This is what I did to help out with space for all four of my tickers and not have to use the mini-tickers. Instead of having the url link for each individual image, I used one URL link for the entire set of images.

So it looks like this, only without the spaces:

Me too! Please keep in mind that not all posters will be able to read your signature to get ages. I turned them and avatars off years ago because they were distracting and took extra time to load.

Gorplady, thanks for that code!  That could be really useful in the future!

For now, I switched to the mini versions, and they work great because all four fit in one line.  So not only can I keep 4, but it compresses the length needed to scroll past.  So they'll be perfect until/unless we end up having a 5th.  :)  Then I might need to use Gorplady's code and have a second line of them.  But even two lines of them is less than having 3 or 4 lines, like I would have with the full-size tickers.

Your sig is over the size limit for the forum, unfortunately.  Which means you need to edit it to fit into the parameters stated in the forum rules.
