When they screw up your order
« on: January 04, 2007, 12:22:07 PM »
Gosh, this is three of four topics in less than a week for me, I think.

I took BF out for Chinese last night and he got the wrong order. We brought it to the attention of the man at the register and he insisted that BF ordered what he got; apparently 'General Tso's chicken' sounds exceptionally similar to 'sesame chicken' to the people at this restaurant. BF was sure of what he said, and it was not the meal he received. We didn't throw a tantrum or anything and BF took what he had been given and enjoyed it. I'm not used to confronting people, so even if it had been my order, I probably would not have made a big deal about it.

Should BF or I have continued asking for the food he actually ordered (or a refund), or were we correct in just letting the cashier feel he was right?

I'd have stated plainly to the cashier that I was certain of what I had ordered and I expected them to provide the correct meal.  If that was met with resistance, I'd have politely asked to speak to the manager, and if THAT didn't work, I'd demand a refund.

There's no way I'd let a cashier tell me what I did or did not say/order.  That is incredibly poor customer service.  Non-existant, actually.

You should have continued asking for the food he actually ordered.  By giving in, you allowed the cashier to feel like he could continue to behave in that matter.

I would have politely insisted that I did not order the sesame chicken and asked for the correct meal.  For me, Chinese is very specific.  I get cravings for certain kinds of food and if I get the wrong order, I can't enjoy it.  I'm not usually a confronting kind of person but I think as long as your tone remains light and maybe a sympathetic comment about how busy it is would have been okay.

You should get what you ordered, period. You're paying for it. I would have politely insisted on getting the right thing, and if the cashier continued to be troublesome I would have demanded a refund, and would have sought my Chinese fix elsewhere.
All the while fantasizing about making the little twerp wear that incorrect order of food....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

This won't help, but it's a funny story...

I went out for Chinese with my Grandparents, Aunt & Uncle.  We each ordered something we wanted and shared.  Uncle ordered Sesame Chicken.  What they brough out looked like Sweet & Sour Chicken. As the waitress set the chicken dish on the table, my uncle said "Sesame Chicken?"  She looked at him, looked at her order pad, realised he was right and said "Oh yes, I'll be right back".  As she walked away with the chicken dish, I jokingly said "she's probably just going to put sesame seeds on whatever that was".  Sure enough, 30 seconds later, she was back with the same chicken dish, now covered in sesame seeds!  We just laughed and ate it anyway- it wasn't Sesame Chicken, but Sweet & Sour Chicken with sesame seeds is pretty good!
