Job application/CV questions

Lynn, I see jobs ads that don't have company names all the time where I live. I've been looking for a job that isn't piecemeal for quite a while, and this is something I've seen more and more of.

Ginger G:
I place the internet ads for my company, and I learned the hard way not to list our company name.  Including the company name, even without a phone number or contact name, would invariably result in being bombarded by phone calls.

Miss Unleaded:
I would leave off MYOB from your CV and the cover letter.  Maybe mention in the interview that you have played around with it and are confident you can pick it up quickly, but I think it's a bad idea to put it in your CV.  Having played with it once or twice is pretty meaningless as far as being able to actually use it in a work context.

A while back when we were looking for a new programmer we had one lady who listed C++ as one of her programming languages.  During the interview it came out that her familiarity with it was limited to a short course seven years previously.  Inflating her credentials on paper to improve her chances of getting an interview really left a bad impression with me and I didn't feel like she would be honest with me in other areas.  She did not get the job.

sweetonsno:
When submitting a CV via email, it isn't necessary to use the company name and address in the heading.

As for the MYOB, I'd leave it off. Only list skills if you are proficient or better.

sammycat:
Thanks for all the replies. :)

I emailed it off last night, and put the email address in the address line of the covering letter, and didn't include MYOB anywhere.  If (fingers crossed) I get an interview hopefully I can explain then that I am familiar with it, but have never used it in a professional capacity.

I'm self taught on every other single computer/accounting programme I've used, and am confident I can pick up MYOB again if necessary.
