Changing How You Interact With Reality Challenged Patrons Post Script #29
Specky:
Why Florida? Sigh..... It's always Florida.
MellowedOne:
You know the world's gone crazy when people take folklore and turn it into the new reality. ::)
The effects of drugs on the mind are long-established and well documented. People take them because they are mind-altering.
Psychadelic drugs distort thinking, emotions, self-image. They also have a nasty tendency to seriously mess up a person's mind, causing them to do things they would never consider doing otherwise. We may 'feel better' by taking them, but because they cause brain damage we pay a heavy price.
There are plenty of examples to look back on, Charles Manson and his "Family" is one of the more noteworthy ones. Charles used LSD trips as a means of getting his followers to act in a despicable manner, one that the normal mind just can't fathom.
Yes, it makes for a more interesting story to attribute things to zombies or the like. But it's just that...a story. The truth is usually less exciting, less mysterious, less 'conspiratorial'. But it's simple, provable, and reasonable.
Petticoats:
Yarnspinner, my heart hurts for you, having to deal with, ahem, challenging patrons on one side and Stonecold on the other. I grew up in Atlanta, and my neighborhood library was a block or two from a homeless shelter, so there were always lots of homeless people and delusional people there, but it sounds like you have the pick of the lot.
I hope for your sake that Stonecold leaves--if not with her husband, then maybe in pursuit of him. ;)
