The best meal you ever had . . .
MerryCat:
Truffle lobster macaroni and cheese at the Hardware Grill. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten.

I was traveling in Spain with friends and we stopped in a small fishing village. The local restaurants consisted largely of shacks on the docks with plastic tables and chairs outside.
We picked one, and the waiter came up to us and listed the kinds of fish they had that day, which we could have baked, grilled or fried. We were about to make our choice, when a boat pulled up and the fisherman picked up a fish by its tail and waved it around. Our waiter then added, oh yes, and we have dorado. We said sure, sounds delicious! They brought the buckets over, and we picked out our favorite. 10 minutes later, we had a platter of freshly grilled fish in front of us. In the mean time, the waiter ran over to the nearby bakery and came back with a loaf of bread. Add in a salad of fresh lettuce and an excellent bottle of wine and oh my goodness. My mouth still waters whenever I remember it.

Hickory Bridge Farm near Gettysburg, PA.
It's a Bed and Breakfast with a restaurant in a restored barn.
Gorgeous setting and the kind of homemade comfort food my Grandmother use to make. :)
Food is served "family style" to your table. We had oven fried chicken, salisbury steak and crab imperial, farm grown veggies, parslied potatoes, homemade bread, spiced peaches, salads with this hot bacon dressing that was amazing and a choice of dessert. They had sweet tea, too. It was just wonderful, very simply prepared and absolutely delicious.

Like many of these stories, my favorite meal was tied to the experience, not the food.
When I was in college, a friend of mine ran a very small landscaping/handyman business during the summers. He did pretty well, and had several repeat customers over the few years. One of his clients invited him and his business partner over for a home-cooked meal, and said they could each bring a date. Although we were just friends, he asked me because he knew I was into architecture, and this family lived in a Frank Lloyd Wright house.
I got a personal tour of the house, and got to discuss architecture and design for an evening. It was awesome! I do remember they served grilled steaks with some sort of spinach salad, neither of which I like, but they tasted so good that night.
