How to Respond to Questions About Ex
rashea:
I think it's fine to say, "ah, guess news hasn't traveled, but we're not together anymore."
I also think it's fine to tell your friends that you wouldn't mind them passing on the news that you are divorced, if not the reasons.
BeagleMommy:
First, hugs to you during this extremely difficult time. I agree that bean dipping until you are more comfortable giving more information is the way to go. The wounds are, naturally, still raw. Give yourself time.
WestAussieGirl:
I guess the reason I feel uncomfortable in just saying it is because the few times I have had people say something similar to me, I have felt horribly embarrassed. I don't want to make other people feel that way.
My friend are all still treating me as though they think I am going to crack into a million pieces. I think that's the reason they aren't willing to tell people outside of our immediate circle.
Petticoats:
I imagine you can prevent a lot of embarrassment by just being matter-of-fact and brief... and maybe offering the escape outlet of beandip so that the inquirer doesn't feel flummoxed as to what to say next. "Actually, we're not together any more. But tell me about your trip to Tahiti. How was it?"
I think it's very kind of you to want to spare others embarrassment, but I hope you're looking out for your own feelings too. :) And though you didn't ask for them, (((Hugs)))!
mizj:
WestAussieGirl, I'm in the same situation. My husband left New Year's day, also for another woman. I just say "we've split up" and then change the subject. Eventually, word will get around.
Stay strong! Hopefully things will get better soon!
