Applying for a job at a distance
SPuck:
I currently live on the East Coast with my parents, but I am considering expanding my job search out of state because I just can't seem to find any good entry level jobs around here. What I would like to know is what is the proper course of action for applying for a position at a distance. I've never tried applying for a job at a distance before, and it just seems strange to go to websites for perspective cities and look up local jobs without already having a connection there. I know its not rude, but at the same time it just feels like sending out my resume would just be a waste of their time because they wouldn't even consider me because of the distance.
immadz:
Well, wouldn't you be willing to move if you got the job?
rashea:
I took my first big job 3 hours from home and out of state. Because it was reasonably close, I went to them for the first interview, and the second was by phone. Some places won't consider you, but many will.
Grancalla:
You can search on sites like monster.com for jobs in your target state. Applying to a remote job there isn't any different from applying to a local one.

I would be willing to move if I got a job, but I have no idea what to expect. I mean at distance all you can really do is a phone interview, but what if you are expected to meet in person. Are you expected to go the distance (and pay for yourself to get to an interview (if it is far enough to involve flying) or is that their requirement. Do you just google position and start applying?
