My favorite line: "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints! The sinners are much more fun!" :)

That's almost exactly the first line that occured to me when I thought that this song would go with this thread, though I went a bit farther back.

They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better, but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
The sinners are much more fun
Only the good die young.

And that reminds me of another one:

If The Good Die Young: Tracy Lawrence

Oh, and I can't believe it took me this long to come up with this one.

Sittin' up with the Dead-Ray Stevens

Here's the official video for it.

So funny, so not funeral appropriate.

And I didn't say this before, but I am sorry for your loss also.

"Always Look On The Bright Side of Life!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVXR0AKyxA4

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of s**t
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
    (Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
    What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...
.

You beat me to it.  I was going to post that my sons and I chose this for the end of my Dh's memorial service.

They played that at the funeral of one of the Monty Python actors.

You all are AWESOME! "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" is EXACTLY right as the theme song for the wake - especially given my dad's views on all things religious and spiritual. \

Thank you all so much. Your thoughts and prayers, and especially your twisted sense of humor, have been an enormous source of strength and comfort to - far more than I can say in words.

Twistedly yours,
Vorbau
Let's roll. (And you can't scare me; I've had teenagers.)

I'm sorry for your loss, Vorbau.  Your dad sounds like someone I would have liked to have known.

For some reason an old Smothers Brothers song popped into my head:  "I wish I was in Peoria."

Sirius - he LOVED the Smothers Brothers and used to giggle helplessly at the one about the bathtub full of chocolate!

Have you looked at anything by Tom Lerher?

He is most famous for 'Poisoning Pigeons in The Par' and 'The Elements  Song' (sung to the tune of Modern Major General') but I've always been partial to, The Hunting Song and 'The Irish Ballad'.

About a maid I'll sing a song,
Sing rickety-tickety-tin,
About a maid I'll sing a song
Who didn't have her family long.
Not only did she do them wrong,
She did ev'ryone of them in, them in,
She did ev'ryone of them in.

(I was going to include the lyrics, as they cheerfully and grusomely list what happens, but I forgot this isn't the
Gross-Out thread.)  ;D

Vorbau, I am so sorry for your loss.

I would like the

Cell Block Tango/He had it comin' - Chicago cast
Light my fire - the Doors
Happy, happy, joy, joy - Ren & Stimpy
It's the end of the world as we know it (and I feel fine) - REM
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Fame! (I'm gonna live forever)

Firstly I'm sorry for your loss.

Secondly, your father sounds like a wonderful man and is still bringing a smile to people he never even met, just look at this thread. :)

Most of what I would have suggested has already been said but I'd like to add:
Ding Dong the witch is dead - Wizard Of Oz
La Roux - In For The Kill
Green Day - Haha You're Dead
50 Cent - When Death Becomes You
P!nk - I'm Not Dead

And if you want to stay in Moty Python spirits, the galaxy song is in a similar vein.

Or how about "We'll All Go Together When We Go"?
"I don't mean to be rude", he began, in a tone that threatened rudeness in every syllable.

"--yet sadly, accidental rudeness occurs alarmingly often," Dumbledore finished the sentence gravely.  "Best to say nothing at all."
