Planning a long weekend in new York City

(1/4) > >>

POF:
Have not been in 25 years .... so DH and the boys and I are going for 3 days this summer ( I know ... heat wave ) !

Would we be better to go Thursday / Friday / Sat    or Fri / Sat / Sun.

I am not concerned about hotel weekend vs. weekday and we are taking the train ...

We are planning to do touristy things and shop.  No plays / musicals scheduled and no fine dining in the works.

I sound like a rube .... but not sure if this makes any difference at all.

Thanks for any info !

A little confused - what's your question?  Are you looking for things to do or places to eat?  Where are you staying?

Kaypeep:
How old are the boys?

Where are you staying.

What are the exact dates?  There are a lot of festivals and events that are one weekend only so that would help to know so more exact suggestions could be made.

In general, I think you should check out a baseball game, Mets or Yankees.  Take a double decker bus tour of the city.  You can hop on and off if you want to stop and check out a site for longer bits of time.  I'd go to the top of the Empire State Building and hit Madison Square Park to wait on on line for Shake Shack burgers and shakes.

I know you said no broadway shows, but you may want to consider Spiderman: The Musical.  THere's nothing else like it and the boys would probably really enjoy it.

The space shuttle Enterprise may also be open for visits on the USS Intrepid as well.  Boys of all ages love that air craft carrier.  (Girls, too!)

My vote, if you truly have the choice: Thurs, Fri, Sat.

The city gets pretty sleepy on Sundays.

I finally made it to Babycakes last time we were in the city, though it is a tiny little shop, it was very worth it. The donuts we had were amazing, and the brownie bites we got for my diabetic FIL were decent too. It isn't a horrible walk from Chinatown.

If you're going to be near Bryant Park, your boys might like The Compleat Strategist-it's a board/card/role-playing game shop. There's a comic shop down a block or too as well.

Always love the MoMA.
