I thought the table manners part of things was kind of funny, because it's essentially saying that Americans eat with utensils, unless they don't.
It's not something most people here would think about, but there are definite "finger foods" vs. "utensil foods," and the relative messiness of the food doesn't really matter.
One of the few topics my American mother and British father would disagree in front of the kids about was table manners, specifically 'finger foods' and 'fork foods'.
I remember a fairly long discussion about whether baked potato skins, once the inner starch has been consumed, were finger foods or not. Based on my current eating habits, I think Dad won that one =D.
