A Whole New Realm of Tacky
MissBrit:
I have a friend who when she got her first serious boyfriend at 23, decided that she should go on The Pill. That was fine and great, I was glad that she was protecting herself but she just wouldn't let it go. We both were volunteers at a local live theater and she would bring her pills to the theater so everyone would see that she is taking them. She would bring her little case in and set it on the edge of the souvineer stand and if someone mentioned that she was eating, she would say something about how she had to eat something before she could take her pill. She said that she brought them to the theater because her doctor said the were more effective when taken at night. Apparently the thought hadn't dawned on her that she could take them at home before she went to bed. She would bring them to friend's houses, a play we went to and she took one during the play like it was popcorn, and she even had her boyfriend get them out of the bathroom at her birthday party and bring them out so that she could take one in front of everyone! I tried talking to her about it but she didn't seem to get it. Since they broke up, she hasn't done it as much, but at our Christmas party in the middle of dinner she said, "*gasp* Oh, shoot, I forgot something." When another friend asked what, you guessed it, she said her pill. ::)
Rose2Bear:
Well, it's pretty obvious she thinks it is "cool" and makes her look "sophisticated" and "mature." If only she knew it made her look the opposite of all three.
EvilAlice:
She needs a variation of the speech that some coach gave his football players regarding end zone dances.
"If you really want to look cool, act like you've actually been in the end zone before." (not that having sex just like 98% of other 23 year olds makes her cool, just going with her perspective here.)
Remember when we were all getting our first bras, and the boys were just learning to snap them? This is the same girl that, instead of being annoyed or embarrassed, would be secretly gleeful and screech "He snapped my BRA!" over and over till everyone heard her and duly noted that she was wearing a bra.
Lunadiana75:
Oh.My.Goodness.
It's one thing to wear a smug little smile when you're picking up condoms, it's quite another to make sure everyone and their brother knows you're on birth control. Perhaps you should tell her that women with hormonal imbalances also take the pill, and people probably assume it's for that ;)
sammycat:
With this attitude is she really mature enough to have a relationship?
