Found this article on line and thought it was very interesting. Seriously the stuff we were taught, I'm glad I live today.

LOL I love the last slide: don't pass out from drinking. Did ladies back then really need to be taught that?? Did *anyone* need to be taught that?

Some of the advice is what I consider common sense in most every social situation, so what if it applied to dating in 1938. Don't chew gum and if you do, keep your mouth closed and be quiet about it. Don't tear up to manipulate people. Don't apply make-up in public and don't smear lipstick on other people's fabrics. Be punctual.

Some of the advice is crazy: don't drink at all, don't talk to another man.

I read the talking to other men as flirting with them- if you look at the illustration, she's playing with the other guy's hair, not just chatting.

FWIWiIt didn't actually say not to talk to other men, it said not to be conspicupuous while talking to other men.

The last slide is hilarious! Who is even able to get so drunk while eating dinner that they pass out?

Slide six is also a favourite - looks like she's trying to extract something from his ear, more than caressing him.

If it's swing dancing or something similar, where there's a leader and a follower, and the moves are kind of unpredictable, I can see where being a Chatty Cathy (or Chatty Charlie) might be a huge distraction and therefore rude. But not for a simple box step or waltz, or the free-form dancing of later years (slow or fast).
