E-Cigs -- thoughts? comments? anybody have one?
jpcher:
I did a search and it seems the last time this was discussed was January 2011.
( http://www.etiquettehell.com/smf/index.php?topic=89381.msg2151140#msg2151140 ) was the latest thread I found. The link in that thread leads to a deeper discussion, also from Jan. 2011.
Back then there were several posters that were using the e-cig. I'm wondering are you still using it?
I just bought one (about a week ago) and I'm slowly getting used to it. I still smoke real cigarettes, but I keep my e-cig in my pack and try to use that more often than a real cigarette.
The problem I'm having isn't the taste/flavor/feel of it (which I thought would be the biggest drawback) but the fact that it never "finishes!" You never put it out.
I sometimes time things with a cigarette, like put on a pot of water to boil, smoke a cigarette then the water is boiling. Or taking a break from housecleaning or some such. Smoke a cigarette then get back to it. I start smoking the e-cig and find that 20 minutes has passed. Much longer break than I intended.
I'm hoping that the e-cig will stick and I'll eventually give up smoking all together, but after smoking for 30+ years, it's an uphill battle. (Plus, I don't really want to quit. I enjoy smoking. :-\)
Any thoughts? comments? pit-falls? success stories?
P.S. Funny thing -- I pulled out the e-cig from my pack the other day and lit it with my lighter. ::) Yeah. Long time habits are hard to break.

My DH uses them, and I sneak the odd puff >:D (15 year ex-smoker, but some days :-[ I just need one)
Anyway, they don't count if you didn't buy them ;)
He counts down 10 puffs=one ciggy.
They are so handy because they "feel" real.
They don't smell, they can be used indoors-no second hand smoke, and they work out so much cheaper.
Just do the 10 puff countdown, and soon you'll find that the real cigs start to be too much bother.

I was going to suggest setting a timer but this is even easier.
Good luck!

Co-worker of mine uses one. He swears by it. I don't know that he actually smokes real ones anymore.
Bonus: since it's just water vapor, you can smoke in your office.
Bummer: since people know you can smoke in your office, you have no excuse for an outside smoke break.

I have a friend with one, and the reality is that he never finishes. He just smokes slower through the whole day to compensate.
I have one with my partner, because we got the no nicotine/just flavor cartridges. It helps with the nibbles.
