You're not good enough for my party, but come anyway!
BuffaloFang:
I thought you all might be somewhat amused by this. With "amused" meaning "appalled."
A girl I know ("Jane") decided to throw a New Years Eve party. Based on past dealing with Jane, I declined to go and went to a different party, but another one of my friends ("Nancy") told me about it. Boy was I grateful that I didn't.
Apparently she had called all of her invitees up the day of the party (Sunday) and asked them to bring alcohol. In my state, you are legally not allowed to buy alcohol on Sundays. Nancy mentioned to Jane there was no way she could acquire alcohol at the point in time, and most other people probably wouldn't be able to either.
So when Nancy gets to the door, Jane informs her that there is no alcohol at the party. Nancy says "fine," since it's not really alcohol that makes a party - it's the people. Well, apparently the wrong people were at this party, because about 10 minutes after declaring the lack of alcohol, Jane breaks out a bottle of daquiri for herself and her best friend. Nancy thinks this is odd, obviously, but lets it go. But then another 10 minutes later, Jane opens another bottle for her and her best friend. So apparently there is alcohol, but only for the hostess and her best friend.
Nancy decides to leave the party soon after, since she was tired of watching the Jane and Best Friend Variety Hour.
After the party, my husband and I ran into another friend "john" who went to the party. We mentioned the lack of alcohol at the party (only because we couldn't believe Jane could be so rude, and wanted to get another side of the story). He said, "Yes! There was alcohol! You just didn't get any if she didn't like you!"
What????? WHy would you invite people to your party that you didn't like??? And why would you drink your own alcohol and not offer it to your GUESTS? I know everytime I throw a party, if ever something runs short (which thankfully doesn't happy often), I'll sacrifice my share of it for the guests.
Some people....

She'll realise this next time she throws a party because, I imagine, there will be a few or no people.

I would be really offended by that little comment "John" made. I'm overly sensitive at times, and hearing something like that would hurt my feelings, and I'm not sure I'd be able to quite act the same around "Jane" again. I'm sure you are glad you weren't there!
snowball's chance:
I was taught in kidergarten that it's not polite to eat in front of people -- same goes for alcohol!
Lunadiana75:
Wow, silly me. All this time I have been making sure my guests get a drink before I have one! I've been serving them yummy food and making sure they are comfortable. When I could really be saving a ton of money and only giving these items to selected guests. Of course, the attendance of my parties will plummet, and people will stop speaking to me, but it's a small price to pay, right?
