Joining an "open invite"

I have a friend on FB, we see each other every couple months and she is having a BBQ, the invite comes up on my feed but I never got an indicator on FB that I was invited. We talk often via phone and text but because I never got the official invite, I wonder if I should join.

The last time this happened it was an acquaintance of mines birthday and she asked me if I tried to come to her party because she missed me and she was bummed I wasn't there, since she had it at some swanky hotel that some of her guests couldn't even get into, which is another etiquette issue all together... inviting someone to something when they cannot get in!!

If you are local and are in touch other then fb I would contact her and ask about the BBQ.
It would solve the confusion but you might be on the hook for bringing a salad
