I can't believe we still have this goofy thing . . .

DD#1 was in oh, maybe, 3rd grade or something like that (so like 14ish years ago.) She came home from a friends house and told me about this cool science thing that the mom made. It was a tornado maker. But it broke and water spilled everywhere. DD#1 was so impressed with this thing, she asked me if we could build our own. I thought "Hmmm. Let's try superglue instead of duct tape (what other mom used.)
To assemble a tornado maker you need 2 2-liter plastic soda bottles, superglue and water.
Fill one of the bottles about 3/4 full of water. Lots-o-superglue around the rim of the neck, then place the neck of the other bottle on top. Once the glue is dried, hold the assembly at the necks, twist your wrist (like spinning a baton) to swoosh the water in the bottom bottle around, turn it upside down and watch the water tornado twirl into the empty bottle.
Anywhoo, it amazes me that we still have this goofy thing. It has a permanent spot on our porch. When little kids come over, they are mesmerized by it. Even adults play with it. I've seen the DDs and their (college-aged) friends passing it around!
It's such a simple goofy thing.
What about you? What goofy thing do you still have?

I took a 3-D art class in college. One of my projects is still displayed at my mom's house. We had to use wire, so I ended up making a weeping willow tree with chicken wire and copper wire. My final project is displayed on the wall in my dining room. It's part of branch with beads and string on it. Really they have to be the dumbest and goofiest thing I've made, but I had a lot of fun making them.

My stepmom's great uncle made a lamp out of a bowling pin. Its super goofy - especially because it just has a generic shade on it. When my stepgrandpa died and they were emptying the house I asked if I could have it. My stepmom laughed - she'd grown up her whole life thinking it was a goofiest thing, and I think she was glad to see it not get thrown out (but was not willing to have it in her somewhat formal home). I'm forever on the lookout for a black sphere lamp shade for it to take it from goofy to kitsch.

I have this old Halloween costume of my Dad's. He made it in college, so this thing is at least 30 years old. He started with a paper grocery bag and a pair of gardening gloves. Then he got this spray-on house insulation stuff (I'm not even sure if you can buy it anymore) that puffed up as it dried. He sprayed it all over the gloves and bag, and then cut out eye holes. It's the stupidest looking thing but he'd scare the pants off of trick or treaters every year by sneaking up on them with this getup on!
Since it's made of insulation it's lasted forever and there's pictures of all us kids wearing it. When he and my stepmom sold their house I asked if I could keep it. DH loves using it on our trick or treaters!

Glue a red ribbon around the white shade for that "bowling pin" motif.
