I can't believe we still have this goofy thing . . .

When my stepgrandpa died and they were emptying the house I asked if I could have it. My stepmom laughed - she'd grown up her whole life thinking it was a goofiest thing, and I think she was glad to see it not get thrown out (but was not willing to have it in her somewhat formal home). I'm forever on the lookout for a black sphere lamp shade for it to take it from goofy to kitsch.

Glue a red ribbon around the white shade for that "bowling pin" motif.

How about a black triangular shade to look like a pinsetter?
Bijou:
I'm sure we still have the 5 inch piece of an old 2 by 4 board with a 5 inch nail sticking out of it (sharp end out) that my husband made in art school in the 60's. It was hanging on the wall for years and then was retired to someplace (hopefully where it won't poke anyone). Now that I think about it, it would have been funny if we had just hammered it into the wall and had this cockeyed beat up old piece of 2 by 4 hanging in the middle of a wall).

Get one of those paper japanese lantern things and spray-paint it black. Add some wire, and you have a lampshade! Don't forget the finger holes.

I have one of those actually. But we added a bit of food coloring to the water, and some glitter, and a house from monopoly. Somehow watching the little green house swirl in the glittery water is very soothing. It makes for a great fiddle toy.
I have light up tops in my office at work, and silly putty as well.
I also how a "dog feeder" (in quotes because it never really worked well) somewhere. And a pillow I sewed in home ec that looks like an old phone, but is comfy, so it's stuck around.

More-than-a-box!
A simple wooden box built by my father to make a water fountain higher, so he didn't have to bend down to get a drink. We used it whenever we needed a stool to reach anything. There is going to be battle to see who gets to keep it after my parents die.
