For example, on a bag of generic white sugar, it read across the bottom, "Ingredients: Sugar". Gee, really? Maybe it's not a warning label, but how dumb can a person be to not know that sugar contains sugar? I've only ever seen this on that brand of sugar, too.

It doesn't always work that way though. I have allergies, so I read a lot of labels, and something that says "Sugar" on the front, may have additives, stabilisers, and/or anti-caking agents. And I can't eat most of these things.

Drives me @#$%^ NUTS.

I've also read warnings about not using hair dryers in the bathtub or while sleeping, using curling irons externally only, and a mattress that said "Do not swallow". I would love to know who attempted that last one just so I could track them down and laugh in their faces.

At my last job, one of the trainers had spent the weekend with her older daughter - who was in labor having the *first grandbaby*.  She was exhausted from lack of sleep but was getting ready for work the next morning anyway...........she was the head trainer for the team teaching us.

She burnt her eyelid (I hope it was the eyelid and not the cornea) with the curling iron due to sheer exhaustion..........and ended up not being at work for several days...........

Let sleeping dragons be.......morning breath......need I say more?

Do not swallow your mattress...*snerk*

I burned the CR@P out of my ear with the curling iron once.  It was not fun.

As far as goofy warnings, one time I was heating up some Larry's frozen Twice-Baked potatoes and I noticed the back said, "Heat for 4 minutes on High......Caution! Potato will be hot!"  Well, DUH!

Best sign I have ever seen:  In Korea, in front of a heritage building with wide shallow steps, there was a sign showing a car going up the steps and surrounded by a red circle with a line through it.  Translation = Don't drive on the steps?  :o ???

Something very similar to that happens here.  Roads in the local park are open to motor traffic only during rush hours and the opening hours are clearly posted.  During other times, there are barriers up to keep outthe traffic.  I don't now how often I've seen drivers go up on the sidewalk to get around the barriers.

"Gee, if the road's closed I guess I'll just have to drive on the sidewalk. :o

I think it was Jeff Foxworthy who had a bit on this regarding Lamaze class.  They had to tell them not to have sex after the woman's water broke.  He wanted to know who tried it in the first place.  Ugh
Actually, one of my old managers had sex between her water breaking & birth. Apparently there is an old wives tale that sex will speed the delivery along. Why she needed to tell us this, I don't know...

Actually, I didn't write that, I was quoting T-Mar.  The rest of my post described the difference between a trip switch (circuit breaker) and a GFCI.

I bought some orange scented kitchen wipes.  The label says "do not taste".

So I didn't.

:) i wouldn't have been able to resist after that ... just one quick little lick.  :P

In the US you are required to have a special kind of outlet, a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor).  It sort of like a very fast circuit breaker, so that if anything does short out (like a hair dryer falling into a full sink), the GFCI will trip and the power will stop.  Building codes require these for all new construction and remodels and, if you buy an older house, the home inspector will suggest, strongly that you get them installed.  I put them into my kitchen when I moved into my current place.

...so you had the electricity updated in your current place? ;D
That's a great pun. I don't know if that was intentional, but i almost spit iced tea on my keyboard reading it. Puns are great.  :D

I have yet to find a pair of running shorts with pockets.  And while it is very gross and I never do it when there are people around or indoors, for me it's the difference between spitting or choking.  Hence why a cold is a good reason to stays home from the gym.  There's a guy at the gym who always sounds like he's about to spit and is very vocal around it and grosses me out.

Okay then, who cleans up the spit that you spat out onto the indoor track? Or do you just leave it there for someone else to clean up or be grossed out by? Sorry, but if you can't run without spitting, then perhaps you should just stick to an outdoor track where that is perfectly okay to do.

I bolded the part of the post where the poster said she doesn't spit on an indoor track and does stick to an outdoor track.

Sorry, I guess I missed the part where the person said that.  :-[

As for the water and electricity part, unfortunately, that warning does need to be on the label. There have been many instances where children have been killed because their parents blow-dried their hair while they were in the bathtub, then dropped the dryer into the water accidentally. Some parents are scarily missing the common-sense part of their brain, but that's a whole different subject.

So why don't you spit into a handkerchief or tissue that you have in your pocket? That is not an excuse to be rude and gross out others.

Well, I said I don't run inside for this particular reason (or, at least, that's one of the reasons).  Outside, I make sure no one's around.  As someone mentioned, finding running shorts with pockets is difficult.  Also, a spitting into something generally doesn't work too well.  Not to be gross, but a kleenex or even a handkerchief wouldn't be enough for a three mile run a lot of times.  So I generally try to hit the grass so other pedestrians can't see it.  I live in a secluded enough area and my running hours are such that this approach works about 90-95% of the time, and a lot of the time it doesn't I get caught by a fellow runner.  And on the rare occasions I don't, I apologize and continue onward.  It's gross, but it's not the end of the world.

Every time I read a stupid label, it will either make me laugh or sigh in disbelief because I know the label is there because someone was stupid enough to do what's being warned against (and probably sued).

For example, on a bag of generic white sugar, it read across the bottom, "Ingredients: Sugar". Gee, really? Maybe it's not a warning label, but how dumb can a person be to not know that sugar contains sugar? I've only ever seen this on that brand of sugar, too.

Stop it RuneGuardian! You nearly made me choke on my crackers from laughing so hard at your post. I'm still laughing, hehe. I mean, a mattress that said "Do Not Swallow?" That is too much and your response to that was hilarious....And the ingredients to suagr is *gasp* sugar!? No WAY! Lol. I'm glad I'm in the office alone because now I'm laughing so hard tears are streaming down my face.

To the OP:  The things people do or let their kids do don't surpirse me anymore.  Yesterday in my city I saw a small boy "going" in a public flower bed while his parents (or the people I assumed were his parents) ignored him.

I wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't TOLD him to do it.
