This sounds like my Dad!  I agree with others and depends on how he would react.  If you don't think he will like it, how about treating him to an ice cream afterwards with just you and him?

I told an old friend of his at the event as it went really well for them, so it kind of capped off the day and all the ladies wanted to give him a kiss. It was hilarious. At the restaurant afterwards he ordered champagne and he even doesn't drink and a couple organised a cake for him so it ended up being just the right balance.
