bad day at the movies
« on: January 05, 2007, 07:06:01 PM »
Sigh, this hasn't been a good time for me has it? In addition to the other threads I have started, I have another story for you. A couple weekends ago, I went to the movies to see the new James Bond. I knew things would all end in tears when these twelve year olds came in just as the movie was starting. They were the sort that thinks it cool to act "ghetto." This is the suburbs, we don't have a ghetto, they look ridulous. (Sorry, got sidetracked for a moment-it's a pet peeve of mine.)

Anyway, they quieted down for awhile, but about halfway through, they began making noise. The noise grew in volume until they were literally shouting at one another. Then they began throwing things. I don't know if anyone else was hit, but they definitely made a huge mess for the poor theatre employees to clean up. I thought about throwing my soda at them to see how they liked it, but I would have probably been arrested, and it would have been a waste of soda.

Fortunately, someone had the good sense to get and usher, who threatened to call the cops if the kids didn't leave. Everyone clapped as she escorted the kids out. I just think it is said that the kids thought they were allowed to ruin the movie for others. Thanks for reading.

Thank goodness someone got an usher.

Isn't it interesting though how these types of people are always the ones who come in right when the movie is started?  Seriously, almost  every person/group of people who has ever annoyed me during the movie is that person who comes in right after the last trailer and the movie has started.  Like clock work.  I always sit there thinking "wow everyone was behaved during the trailers, maybe this will be a good crowd!" and then lo and behold.... THEY come.

Such is life.

You forgot the rest of that sentence.....because they always, ALWAYS SIT RIGHT BEHIND ME!!!  I don't care if the WHOLE theater is empty except me, they will ALWAYS pick the seats behind ME to sit in.  Grrrrrrrrr!

I just wish people could have more courtesy. If they are going to behave like animals, they can behave like animals at home.

I would like to apologise to any animals who may have been offended by my last remark. I am aware that animals would be much better behaved than these fools.

OHHHH I know what you mean. One time my BF and I were the ONLY people in the theatre (I like to get there early)and these teenagers sat one row ahead of us, and only like two seats over.   Very frusterating. They wern't totally terrible though.

Another time we were the only ones there (well first ones there anyways) and not one, not two, but THREE groups of people all clustered around us.  Maybe my perfume smelled really good.

there was a small theater that I used to go to that the best place to sit was in the last row, aginst the wall.

Oh, Ko-Ko, I feel your pain.  I haven't set foot in a movie theatre since 3 January 2005.  I remember the date as I was my son's 8th birthday and I took him and a friend to see "The Incredibles".  We were sitting right in front of this woman about my age (mid 30s), her mother and her 4 or 5 year old child.  That child did not shut up or sit still for a second, and why should she when mum and grandma are egging her on and talking and acting as though they are in their own living room.  I asked them several times politely to be quiet and that would only last for a few minutes.  The theatre was full so we couldn't move and the only reason I didn't go and get an usher was I didn't want to leave my son and his friend on their own in the theatre.

We now have the DVD of that movie and I can't bring myself to actually watch it as it brings back memories of that awful day.  Thankfully my mum, MIL and SIL take the kids to the movies since then as I refuse to go anymore.

That is one of my biggest irks ever.

Why must people behave as complete clods in the movie theater when I am there?

I was once treated to the experiance of a group of high school kids who spent the entire movie text messaging each other and snorting loudly at how clever they were. They would call each other from one end of the row to the other and giggle about how silly it was to do so. I wanted desperately to dump my popcorn on their heads but my husband managed to restrain me.

People are idiots. One night I was at the movies and noticed quite a bit of...horizontal squirming...a couple rows below me. It was highly disturbing, but as I was engrossed in the movie and at least they were getting it on quietly, I didn't go find an usher. They're impossible to find at our theater anyway. I just ignored the flailing limbs and fantasized about dumping, say, a trash can full of sticky grape soda on top of them.

Seriously, some people need to learn how to behave in public.

I wonder if this was the same movie theater where they make three bucks an hour plus tips.

You know, with the raspberry slushies.

Oh yeah. Same one. And they charge $8 a ticket for students. It is insane. If BF didn't have an obsession with going to the movies I would never go.

I rarely go to the movies anymore because I always end up with some idiot behind me running their mouth, or kicking my seat.
When I went to see Prisoner of Azkaban there was a woman behind me who asked her date EVERY TIME someone came on the screen if they were the prisoner of Azkaban. Literally from the opening sequence on. It was obvious she knew nothing of Harry Potter. Then she was going on and on about Buckbeak, continually asking "What's going to happen to the chicken?" (from where Malfoy called it a chicken I guess). I finally turned around in my seat and told her that I was going to tell her how the movie and the next book ended if she didn't shut up. Not the world's greatest etiquette, but sometimes one must fight stupid with fire.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Between this and the cost of tickets, this is why the movie theatre industry isn't doing too well right now.  Nobody wants to deal with paying out the nose to see a movie and have it ruined by others.
