Actually I sympathise with the OP.  Maybe because, with the best intentions in the world, my husband does the same thing. 

On the rare occasion when I discover an internet meme before him and try to show it to him, he won't really pay attention but will use it as an opportunity to tell me about the three or four funny things he discovered during the day instead. 

It's not malicious (I don't think it is anyway), it's just prompted him to remember stuff he was going to share with me anyway.  But when he skips the part where he says "yes that is funny" or otherwise reacts to what I've shown him, it feels kind of disrespectful.  I've raised this with him in the past and he disagrees with me, so YMMV.
