The "Island" Game
« on: January 06, 2007, 02:11:35 AM »
There are probably many versions of this game, but I thought it would be fun to play and see everyone's answers... If anyone has any better categories, I'm probably not that creative, so please add it!

If you were stuck on an Island and could only bring one of the following with you what would it be?
1. A DVD
2. A CD
3. A Book
4. A lifetime supply of one type of food
5. A celebrity
6. A board game to play with your celebrity
7. One bonus item other than a cell phone or way of leaving said island

Here are my answers:
1. DVD: "Amadeus"
2. CD:  "Frank Sinatra: The Very Good Years"
3. Book: "The Great Gatsby"
4. Food:  My grandma's stuffed cabbage
5. Celebrity: Conan O'Brien (though if Johnny Depp floated by on his own raft he could join us with no protest from me, I'd even share the cabbage)
6. Game: Monopoly
7. Bonus: my ipod, though realistically its lousy battery life would be rather frusterating...

1. A DVD - the Crow

3. A Book - 100 Years Of Sollitude
4. A lifetime supply of one type of food - Pesto - good to add ot whatever I find
5. A celebrity - I'm not that bothered about celebrities. Hmm. Paz from a Perfect Circle. She is sweet.
6. A board game to play with your celebrity - Guestures (high speed charades)
7. One bonus item other than a cell phone or way of leaving said island - Loads of sunblock or a nice gothy parasol

2. A CD - Nirvana - With the Lights Out (so it's 3 CDs, but it's a set!)

6. A board game to play with your celebrity - Trivial Pursuit.

You like them? My friend M is NUTS about them. Right before xmas they came to our area & she went to see them 2x. She made them all soccer t-shirts & they brought her onto the bus so she could get out of the cold & gave her a sweatshirt. NOT she was on the bus like a groupie would be; they sounded like nice people.
It's alright, man. I'm only bleeding, man. Stay hungry, stay free, and do the best you can.

If you were stuck on an Island and could only bring one of the following with you what would it be?

Hmmm... can it be one of those islands where you can pick fruit, get fish out of rockpools, etc? Otherwise I'd be wasting my lifetime supply on, you know, healthy food!!

Okay:
1. A DVD - can it be a box set? I wouldn't survive with only one DVD. It would have to be the latest Stargate Atlantis box set, because at least those all have commentary, etc, so it would take 40+ hours before I got bored. :)

2. A CD - this is tough. I think I would take The Mask and Mirror by Loreena McKennitt. It's my favourite of her albums.

3. A Book - no question - Shogun by James Clavell. Because it's long enough that when you get to the end, you start again and it all seems fresh.

4. A lifetime supply of one type of food - chocolate. Are you crazy?! ;D Preferably dark choc. Toblerone.

5. A celebrity - can I take David Hewlett? PLEASE??

6. A board game to play with your celebrity - Star Wars Trivial Pursuit. I don't care if he doesn't like Star Wars; at least I'd always win!!

7. One bonus item other than a cell phone or way of leaving said island - either a file full of all my favourite slash stories, or an iPaq with solar-powered batteries - again, so I could read all my slash stories!

And please let us be ALONE on the island. No weird misty creatures attacking us, no hatches in the ground, no 'others', no people in hoods named Q (sorry, that's from a TV program no one will get) and no lost civilizations! Just me, David and lots of chocolate!!

Silly T'Mar, do you think that you are the only one who the sun rose and set on Star Trek?

I lived and breathed it from 1969 on.  (we didn't get an NBC channel or I probably would have been hooked "before" it went into syndication.)

Although after hearing John D'Lancie speak at a convention, I came to the conclusion that he is just as obnoxious in real life as Q was.

No, Q in the hood is from an Aussie show from the '70s called "The Lost Islands", in which a bunch of teens' ship is wrecked and they find this lost civilization (circa middle ages) ruled over by a guy in a hood who wears a mask called "the Q". I actually have some episodes that I found but I'm too scared to watch them, since the last time I saw the show was about 25 years ago!

Well, I was a baby in 1969. :) We didn't even have TV here until 1976!! They first showed Trek in 1979, and I was hooked immediately. So you can't really blame me for not being hooked since '69 - I was only born just before it went off NBC! ;D

Boy, the stories I could tell about the SABC (our broadcaster) and the way they treated sci-fi fans!

I humbly stand corrected.  Thank you

And you might want to put those episodes on -- you just might find them too funny for words.

I know when I was a kid all of us lived and breathed "Dark Shadows" (A Gothic soap opera for those who don't know) and when I saw a few episodes not to long ago. They were a scream. Some bad acting, some bad production values. I remember one episode where "Quentin's" side burns were flapping in the breeze.

I know there is a large fan following for this show as well.  But I think that some of the production values are what makes it so much fun to watch in later years.

About the Quote -- I work with too many people who need a little MORE imagination in their lives. So it is one of my favorite sayings when they get a little to strong about my hobbies.

If you were stuck on an Island and could only bring one of the following with you what would it be?
1. A DVD: Buffy the Vamire Slayer Season 2
2. A CD: My boxed set of Fanny
3. A Book: I don't suppose there's a one-volume version of the complete works of Anthony Trollope, is there? No? Too much to ask, I suppose. In that case, War and Peace. It's one of my all-time favorite novels.
4. A lifetime supply of one type of food: Gotta go with T'Mar. Life is incomplete without dark chocolate.
5. A celebrity: Anythony Stewart Head, 'cause he's decorative and nice and down to earth. Of course he might be sick of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but he might find some of my opinions about it amusing.
6. A board game to play with your celebrity: Strip Twister.
7. One bonus item other than a cell phone or way of leaving said island: My beloved Mac and internet access. I promise I won't access any travel or rescue sites, but I have to have a way to write and distribute my fanfic and carouse with my fellow eHellions! ;D

If you were stuck on an Island and could only bring one of the following with you what would it be?
1. A DVD

Either Grease or the A&E/BBC version of Pride and Prejudice.

2. A CD

A Beatles classic like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

3. A Book

Definitely Pride and Prejudice.  I can always get into it no matter what.

4. A lifetime supply of one type of food

Spaghetti and meatballs made by my father (I love it).

5. A celebrity

I'm not sure about this one.

6. A board game to play with your celebrity

Trivial Pursuit or Monopoly (I can't decide which).

7. One bonus item other than a cell phone or way of leaving said island

A laptop computer.

I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.

Ok, I have a question: are we all gonna be stuck on this island together? Cuz I think it would be much more fun than to be by myself on an island, even if Nathan Fillion were with me. I'm sure eventually we'd get bored of each other and start fighting. I get along well with other Aries (which Nathan is, as he shares my birthday!) but when we butt heads, we butt heads good!!

Also, what would be the point of taking a CD and a DVD with me if I had nothing to watch/listen to them on?
