The thing is, she's usually very tactful and careful about what she says... just not when it comes to Ted. Her Ted Tolerance is very low.

I don't think that tact would work on Ted in this case. He seems to hear what he wants to unless someone jars him out of it.

I am so happy the OP's sister stepped in. My middle sister and I have to use the logic hammer on our youngest sister, who is the female version of Ted very often. She shows no signs of growing out of it either.

Ted called earlier to tell me he's decided to tell Mom and Dad that he has to work this weekend and won't be able to see them, so they should wait to come up to visit the weekend before New Year's.  (Which they won't have to do because he will see them next week.) He'll still get his "surprise" element when he shows up to Christmas.  Mom and Dad won't have to travel needlessly.  I am proud of him for coming up with this compromise, even if it did require application of the logic hammer.

Yeah!  I don't know why I've felt so invested in this story, but I am so happy to hear that Ted is starting to see a glimmer of light.

Yep, now that's a nice surprise. I recommend in future you use the logic hammer with Ted, and make sure you compliment him for coming up with a better idea, and having the good sense to listen to Sis.

Oh, yes, I told him it was a GREAT idea and very considerate of mom and dad.    And then I called my sister, who declared herself Queen of Christmas.  I told her that meant she had to do all of the cooking, which shut her up.
