workout surface for carpet?
« on: December 19, 2012, 06:02:45 PM »
I have purchased some exercise videos in the hopes of getting some exercise, feeling better, toning up, etc.  Ideally I would like to exercise in the living room, but am concerned I'll "fuzz up" the carpet going back and forth with the exercise videos, etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some sort of portable, hard/cushioned surface suitable for doing a dance workout or the like?

Thanks!

Slip-on Dancers might work for you. They are a slippery strap you pull over your rubber-soled shoes that allow you to dance with less friction on carpeted surfaces.
Ask for what you want. Let's be clear on this one:
Subtle hints don't work.
Strong hints don't work.
Really obvious hints don't work.
Just say it!

Right off the top of my head I'm thinking a foam rubber pad covered with a sheet or towel or even a cheapy throw-rug (heavier and with more grip) that will be easy to roll up and put away.

You can buy foam rubber in any fabric store at varying thicknesses, depending on what kind of "cush" you want.

The cheap throw rug might be good for "cushy"

For a harder surface, office supply stores sell chair mats that are normally used for rolling desk chairs.  You can get one that's pretty big.

If this is for any type of dance aerobics, I don't think I'd use the foam puzzle piece flooring. I think there'd be too much stress on where the pieces join.  I think it would be ok for more stationary things like yoga

I use several puzzle mats in my carpeted guest bedroom for working out. I haven't had any problems with keeping them together. I use a damp mop to clean them weekly, and about once per month I take them apart and vacuum the carpeting beneath them.
