Maybe you can rave to other family members about the pies and how yummy they were.  Or even better send some pies to another member of the family still talks to SIL.  Bonus points if they offer to share some with her without telling her where they came from.

I vote for complete silence. It'll make her wonder if you got the pies AND now the email. Best response is no response. Eats people who want a reaction up.

I must admit that my response would probably be a simple, "Whatever.  Darn, those pies were good!"

And nothing else.

But that is EvilJennJenn speaking.  EvilJennJenn is sometimes etiquette-challenged.  (Why do you think I'm here?)  Probably the sensible thing to remember is the usual eHell litany:  "Don't JADE.  Do not engage the crazy.  Let her stew in her own juices."

(Or bake herself in a pie... whichever seems more appropriate! ;D)

Yes.  Plus, ANY reaction will be twisted into more fuel for SIL's ire.  Your cool non-reaction will extinguish those flames.

What does her husband have to say about her behavior?  Is he more rational?

I think I would reply,

Well, if that is the way you feel, so sorry. We will just forget where you are.  But, dingdangity, those pies sure were tasty!  Thank you so much for returning them!

I love the "you know where I am" thing.  Um, yeah, we sent pies there.
[/b]
Exactly!! That made me think "Yeah, you're in the house full of much drama and no pie!"
It's very "The ball is in your court now." which translated means "I'm itching for a fight - your move!" She obviously doesn't realize that the pies were their attempt at reaching out and in rejecting them it's "Game Over!"

I absolutely love the bolded! It made me laugh out loud!

Agree with PP's: radio silence. SIL won't know if you've got the pies or email.

I think maintaining silence is the way to go.  But I have to say "you boo boo dum dum head" made me laugh out loud.

In addition, if other family members ask about SIL or try to play "flying monkey," pretend ignorance.  You and your DH should act as if you know absolutely nothing about your SIL, pies, or e-mail.

Maybe she'd like some nice Christmas crackers.  Not that it would intended as a message or anything...
You must remember this: a ghoti is still a fish...

Not crackers (explosive or whole grain) - some nice mixed nuts are what the SIL needs.

With this being the Christmas season, a nice juicy slice of fruitcake would be more fitting...the 50-lb doorstopper type that lasts for years... >:D >:D >:D
